As much as I like to poke fun at Daewoo. I've got to hand it to them. They make nice affordable cars with great company maintence plans. My buddy phily can vouch for this. He got his car really cheap! I really like the interior of this car, too. I'm just trying to represent the Daewoo crowd up in here!

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Jap-hater. In fact, I admire the Japs more than Korea. But I'm just pointing out that the Koreans will be where the Japs are.

I wasnīt an enthusiast until I owned one and realized I was wrong about koreans (I think just Daewoo) and now, 4 years later, the only problem I had was a little noise/vibration coming from the front door some weeks ago and got it fixed by the dealer. Maintenaince is sooo cheap! Iīm really glad I have it, itīs fun and nicely loaded. :p
Iīd like to get the Leganza but here is a bit more expensive, damn they still donīt offer a V6 in it! Anywise the brand is quite popular.

My mom has one, they have NO pickup and NO top speed, but they are a very nice looking car.. design and style is very luxurious, but the engine is trash. Swap it with a VTEC v6 and turbo it, then you have yourself a nice ride, for a 50 year old! hehe

hehe what's up guys
i can see my friend Johnny posted here
well my parents have a leganza
cause i went on this daewoo trip to korea about 2 years ago.
in return for going on that trip the company gave these college students a 50% dsicount for buying these cars.
So i got a fully loaded leganza for only 11 grand
I'd have to say its pretty nice. Its like an accord with a 4 banger.
Apparently, daewoo's have something called Dtec just like the Vtec in hondas. Obviously not as powerful, but it does its job.
Would i personly get one? of course not, but if i'm on a tight budget and i need a economical and practical car then daewoo is the way to go.

Im not prejudice Daewoo, I've lived in Korea for eight years, so I've sat in one a dozen times (actually, I think more) but never droven one, although I don't really think they're driver-cars. Cheapo materials and quality interior lets down otherwise OK design. More exciting than most Japanese cars though. Cheaper, even! But I wouldn't buy one.. I'd keep saving for a european car... :)

This coming from someone who drives a New Beetle- aka a Golf dressed like a drag-queen and complete with a flower holder- I sure hope you are a chick- because if you were a guy driving one then :gay: get a Golf and do it properly.
And there is nothing wrong with Daewoo- firstly the Leganza costs about the same as a Golf but is far better-equipped, the dynamics are reasonably good for a Korean, it is an excellent looking car- and complete with a crappy ECOTEC 2.2 engine unfortunately- don't diss it until you've driven it

i must admit i do own a daewoo television. i have no complaints from that company. any company making an inexpensive car with decent quility is alright in my book. i have nothing againsy euro. cars but the dont make anything cheap. a new beetle can run $24,000 yea yea i know good car but dang i dont have $24,000 or could get the credit for it.

daewoo, the brand still has a horrible stigma attached to it. kindof like hyundai. i would have gotten a santa fe if it weren't made by hyundai.
my friend bought a daewoo and she was all excited and then i asked her if it was a daewoo and she looked down at the ground an muttered yes.
so it might be a great car but i wouldn't be proud of owning one.
and whats wrong with a new beetle? i'm secure enough about my masculinity to drive a beetle.

No Daewoo product uses the Ecotec 2.2L engine. The engines used in the Leganza were sourced from Holden and are dated Opel designs...not the more modern Ecotec design.

Its safe to say they were pieces of rubbish when they first were exported in the 80's.
Like the Japanese the South Koreans had a lot to learn, today they produce cars with v6's eg: Daewoo Magnus.
They now have decent quality, good pick up. A TOP SPEED and ok resale value.
I use to be a critic until i met a person who actually owned an Espero.
They are decent, affordable and much better than what they use to be. The only problem the South Koreans have now is convincing the rest of the ignorant world.

The dealer gave us a 2004 leganza to drive while our Grand cherokee was being repaired, and after 2 weeks with this car I wouldnt have one if it was given to me. It looks good and has an impressive amount of power but the seats where like sitting on a board with leather over it and at 22 MPG I was not impressed at all. Our Grand cherokee gets that kind of mileage and even with the Daewoo having all the options it was cheaply made and not comfortable enough to drive or sit in for more than 1 1/2 hours. It might be a good car if it had Better seats and sold for less than $6000, but at 6'2" I would not buy one.

Well if you are that tall you should have never been in a Daewoo that was your fault for letting them put you in one, my brother is 6'6" and his wife (she's 5'3") was going to get one but they couldn't because he's too tall.
Me personally, coming from a '94 escort, s/w, 5-spd, the Leganza is a big improvement. As for a Jeep you couldn't give me one and then pay me the price for it. I had a Dodge Dy"nasty" owned it for 1 year it was in the shop for 9 1/2 months when I had it. Everyone I have ever known has had crappy cars from them. They are nice the first 50k miles then the wipeout mechanism kicks in.

These cars are getting better and better, since the end of 1997 they launched a great line of cars, now added the new Nubira, Magnus and Kalos, now in North America, in Suzuki and Chevrolet badges, something that will revalue the Suzuki brand all the way up. These are the best cars for tight $$$ So donīt be silly and ask things that you would expect in a Mercedes or Porsche (actually Woos have praised Porsche suspension components...)
If you donīt like em, thatīs great, others do. Just donīt be inmature on boicoting them with silly stuff like Ohhh seats are so unconfortable, they break down at 50k. Ask your self, what a $#"# do you know?
Cheers

I'm a Daewoo enthusiast NOT because of their stupid performance, but because of the styling of some of their cars. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Jap-hater. In fact, I admire the Japs more than Korea. But I'm just pointing out that the Koreans will be where the Japs are.
Wow, I COMPLETELY disagree with you. I've ALWAYS thought European cars a TON better than Asian. Japanese cars are much better than Korean, but I'd still rather own a BMW than a 240SX. Daewoos all look funky to me, and I personally don't understand why if you were looking in that price range, not get a good quality used car.
In my opinion, Honda's styling is a lot better than Daewoo...and they're efficient and reliable.
Just my :2cents:

My mom has a 2001 LEganza and I know its a crappy car, but Iv raced it and it moved quick. It was not the fastest but it moved. Well anyways i beat a corrolla with intake and a maxima with intake and a few other mods. keep in mind this is my moms daily driver. I only drive it to get the cob webs out of the car. I also messed around with a mustang on the freeway, the daewoo took off when i pushed the button on the shifter. the rpms went up and so did the speed. so i cant complain too much about it. but things on the car are starting to break off.

I mean from the inside of the car, one of the sunvisors broke. But wait the car did over heat on me once, it was and electrical problem. Nothing worked, no AC no electric windows. Everytime I stopped at a light I would have to open the doors. It was bad until the car just blew the white smoke out of the hood. BUt i got it home safe and took it the next day to the dealer and had it fixed, since then it has worked fine. I also havent raced anyone.
But there is a race team in my area that does race daewoos, so if i wanted maybe i could race it... NO thats ok.

i would love to help you, more so myself. i really dont think there is help. this is the way dealerships/loan companies want it.i signed a contract. with a horrible deal in it. the sticker price was great in 2002 for a 2002 grand am, it was $14,500. with interest, and extra warrenty, gap coverage, tax, title, tags, and accidental death coverage the loan jumped $24,000 for a car still worth $14,500 until of course i drove it off the lot so it lost about 30% of its value. my best suggestion is to stick out, and go japanese next time the resale value of a 95 honda accord base model with a few options is higher then my 02 grand am.

I own a Deawoo Leganza and the motor went out after only 60,000 miles. It will now cost me more than the car is worth to fix it, The bank dosen't want it and I can't sell it so now I 'm SOL I hope you don't have any major problems or you might be in the same boat.. If there is a solution to this situation that any one can tell me please let me know...
R=There isn't much you can do besides have the motor rebuilt. Did you have the timing belt changed at 60000 miles? Inside the glove box should be a little book called an owners manual. I suggest you read the one in your next car including the maintainance schedules.

I have a 1999 Leganza and have had few problems with it, and it is goo on gas during this gas crunch. However the Florida head is killing the interior, the dash is coming unglued, as is the vinal from the door panels, does anyone have or know of a repair kit ???

I just got a 2000 Leganza for my wife last week for $700 in need of a timing belt and a few valves... So far I like the car... I like the look of it, inside and out, engine seems so simple for a 2000 it's retarded (no MAF shocked me). It has almost 74k miles on it, and the book said 72k miles for the timing belt.... To be honest, I think that is pretty messed up only getting 2k miles before the belt goes, so I got a highly saturated nitrile belt (runs cooler then regular belt) for it and plan to change it at 50k. I got it for my wife because she is in school for nursing, and she needs something more reliable and safer (in the snow for sure, especially the highway) then her 95 T-bird w/4.6l no ABS&traction control. So far only been down the road in it a couple miles (towing to my friends house, lol), but it seemed to have a nice and quiet ride. As for the post above mine for the dash coming unglued, I bought a 92 Lumina Z34 5 speed from a guy in Texas, and he had pulled panels and used epoxy to hold down where the vinyl attached to the plastic. Best way to do that is to catch it before it does it though... but I did it in my 91 Z34 after it had pulled up, and it did look better then i did before i tried it, just have to hold the vinyl in place while the epoxy sets up. For fabric, I have used rubber cement, but spray adhesive worked better the second time around then the rubber cement did.

Daewoo is a good car if you maintain it it will last forever. I have Daewoos coming to the shop with 100K plus on them. Funny they all change their oil and timing belt at 60k is crucial.
61k they break and bend some valves and all kinds of havoc.
Its also a good idea to flush the cooling system. Most of the ones we got had the incorrect coolant in them and supposedly where changed at port.
The coolant that was in some was corrosive and eats the head gasket, water pump fins and so on.

I got the head off of ours today..... I had the exhaust manifold off last night, looked in the ports, same cylinder that had the bent intake valves has bent exhaust valves too. The cylinder on the tranny end had heavy diposits in the port that looked to me like coolant. I looked closely at the head gasket today after getting the head off and it looks like it had started to leak coolant into the cylinder. I look at this as killing 2 birds with 1 stone, and am actually kind of glad the valves got bent, making me take the head off to find this. I had noticed the coolant in the bottle looked like crap before I even took the first wrench to the engine, and now I know why.
