Prom

I am looking for a PROM chip for my 87 Iroc. Does anyone know where to get one that doesn't cost a fortune? I'm not looking for a high performance one, just one that will keep the car running.

check around e-bay, i've seen name brand proms, pre-burnt ones, and guys that will make you one :)
usually anywhere from $30-200 just depending what you want

I looked on ebay and saw a guy that makes them, but I read his page and it says something about changing your thermostat and all this other stuff and I got all confused. But I'll try again! Thanks!

I think JET and Hypertech make performance chips. You could always just find an original chip from a junk yard or will a stock replacement not do?? You could also look into performance shops because im sure many of them could tune a custom chip for it. I know a guy up here that does chips for 200 canadian but that doesnt help much.

I am trying to find a chip at a yard, but there are hundreds of yards out here, I have called a bunch of them and they don't have it. I have a question,though. I am looking at this site and it states that it has chips, but under 87 Camaro, they have that the 8 cylander is a TBI. Is that right? I was under the assupmtion that in 87 models, the 8 cylanders are all TPI. Of course, I could be wrong....

The 8 cylinder TBI didnt come out until 1988. In 1987 though you could get a carbed 8 cylinder besides the two TPI engines.

they also recycle parts from other cars, you'd hafta call them on the phone and ask specifically.

I have used both guys before in the past and have had great results from both of them... Just give them all the info on you car and I'm sure you will be pleased with the outcome...

www.fbodymotorsports.com they should be able to help ya out. they get wrecked third gen camaros and firebirds all the time, strip em and stock the parts on the shelves, they sell used parts cheap, and will probly be able to help, i suggest calling rather than looking at the online catalog, as i think they only list new hypertec units, but im sure they can find a used one for ya.

You get a chip from TBIchips.com for $54 and as for the thermostat question you can get on from the parts store for under $5 with the gasket. All you have to do is pop the thermostat housing off and stick the new on in. simple. If you live in the southe where it is warm it also keeps you camaro running cooler. You will get a few more ponnies as well. I just got one myself for my 92 tbi 305 and i like it alot.

Just ask the Parts Counter for a 160 thermostat and they will hook you up

About those 160s, what are the drawbacks/side effects if any? was thinkign about going and getting one with this paycheck, start doin something with my car.

I have another question....89IIROC said I might have a ground wire issue that was causing all my electronics to short. How do I check this so that when I install the new PROM it doesn't kill that one as well?

Hypertech stage 1 street runner costs around 100 bucks and can be upgraded later.
