trouble starting when HOT

I've got a 1990 Honda Accord, 4-cyl, fuel injected. The car is running great, when it's running. In the morning, she starts right up no problems. However, if I stop after driving for a while, I am having problems getting it started again. The other day, I stopped for gas, couldn't get it started after several attempts, and had to wait 5-10 minutes before trying again and then it just fired right up. I have had similar problems on a weekend where the car sat in the sun for 5-6 hours before I tried starting it ... couldn't get it started even after waiting.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what the problem could be and the steps to take to troubleshoot?

Could be a few things. Heat builds resistance in electrical circuits and your ignition might have a bad connection that shows itself only when it is at a higher temp. Does the starter turn over good hot and cold? It could also be fuel. Do you run cheap gas? Vapor lock might be the problem although it is less likely with fuel injected cars. Try running premium for a few weeks and see if that helps at all. GL.

true, look at your electrical circuits and check out your compression

oh yeah check the valve cleareance if its not too costly.

I guess my auto maintenance newbie-ness will certainly show here. You say to check the electrical, but I'm not totally certain what to check other than connections to/from the coil and distributor. The next thing I could do is perhaps replace the distributor, but that seems like a shot in the dark. Also, I suppose I would need to buy some equipment to check valve clearances and compression (I would like to start fixing things like this myself!!). Thanks for the input ... any more is appreciated.
