speedometer cable replacement

For my 95 Jetta's speedometer is not working. I'm gonna try to tighten the cable or possibly oil it before i replace it but i havent had time to look at it yet. i was wondering if someone knew where the cable was attached to, i figured it was the tranny but then someone told me it could be the front wheel it might be attached to. looking for feedback. thanks.

The speedo is electronic & doesn't use a cable. The speed sensor for it is on top of the transmission below the battery towards the rear.
