i have an 82 firebird with all original perfect everything. Fire engine red exterior and black cloth interior. Very nice car. I t has a 305 V8 carburated angine. The previous owner put a quadrijet 4bbl on it. I wanted to know if anyone could help me out with adding some much needed horsepower, it only had 145 stock and now with the quadrijet is estimated to have 170. I just dont want to tear apart an all original engine and console inside. Any ideas or comments, please post. Thanks.

Do as i am doing with my 82 trans am. Rip the crap 305 out. Buy a rebuilt 327 with 202 heads. Back it up with a beefy TH350 that has also been rebuilt with a shift kit and a harden sprage race. And then but a nice set of big tires. the car will fly.

with a 305 you will have to tear the motor down to add any horsepower. you could rebuilt it as a 305 high output. and probaly get around 210 hp out of it. but i would recomend a 350. i am in process of putting a 350 fuel injected lt1 and a 6 speed in an 82 trans am. im having some wiring issues right now but in about another week she should be running, it will have 305 rear wheel horse power. engine came from a 96 trans am.

hi try a good tune up first, then a new air filter .ever think about the rear gearing if it has high ratio gears it wont have a lot of power.try a set of 3:73 gears u will feel a difference in power immediately.also make sure the 4 barrel is working properly,if not its only a2 barrel, hence no power later ,jimmy
