150 HP at the crank, about at the wheel. Same as a gsxr 750.

It's obvious that you guys have never ridden sport bikes seriously.
The GSX1000 only beats the R1 on laptimes by fractions of seconds. These bikes stock are so fast and tweaked it is virtually impossible for normal riders to be able ride the bike to the max. Basically these bikes go as fast as the rider can.
Anyways here are the specs:
GSXr1000
988cc DOHC 16valves
375lbs
144hp/77ftlbs
10.1 @ 142 mph
top speed of 177mph
YZF-R1
998cc DOHC 20 valves
382lbs
131hp/72ftlbs
10.18@136MPH
top speed of 176mph
8/100ths of a second that big of a difference? or maybe it is the 1mph top end over the R1.
I have ridden both bikes and the comfortability level of the R1 is much better then then the 1000. You ride ON the GSX, you ride IN the R1. Plus if you are over 5'10" the gixxer will be very hard to ride.
Oh, the R1 looks way better anyway :p

I'm 6'2" and 235 lbs. I fit on my GSXR 1000 just fine.
R1-Rider is right. It all comes down to rider skill. I know there is no way I will break into the 10's when I go to the drag strip.
I liked the new R1's plastics back in the 80's when they were on the 500EX. :D

Yea, the launch pad off most strips is just plain out dangerous.

You got that right. I went to the local drag strip this weekend. The launch pad had about a 1/2 of rubber and other crap built up on it. Then, there was a layer of sticky stuff on top of it. It didn't inspre too much confidence.

you have to work to keep the front wheel on the ground than to get it off the ground:D
