alarm problem

My alarm been going off and on randomly.. Happened since this morning.. After I pressed the "lock door" button, it will give the usual response sound. After about 3 seconds, alarm will give 2 beeps, and then stopped... I din't really care about it, until I have my car parked in the neighbourhood. Above scenario occurred again, but this time, the alarm seem to have a life of its own.. Came on for about a minute.. then died off... Then came on... Did not realize until my neighbour told me! I had to resort to locking it using the key instead to prevent the alarm from beeping..

Any idea what happened, camarors?

i had a similar problem with my aftermarket alarm that was installed to my 94 z, my alarm would go off out of nowhere a few moments after i set it, the security light would come on and off at random times, after i let it go on for about a year one day it just wouldn't turn over, it would try to crank but it wouldn't turn over. it ended up that it was the 'theft deterant module' was shorting out. which in a 94 z, is underneith the defrost vent that blows onto the passenger window on the right side of the dash, bolted to the right side. i replaced the tdm and the light quit coming on and my alarm started working properly. check into it. hope it helps :smokin:

LT1MAN,

I am not really a alarm-guy. My 96 rs comes with an factory alarm (LED just beside the central defrost vent of the top dash). Do you reckon the 'theft deterant module' will be located in the same area as you have mentioned in my car? How much did you pay for it? Did you do it yourself?

had a very similar problem to this on an 00 camaro Z28 at work, wound up being the shock sensor mounted in the trunk/cargo area on the inside quarter panel, under the plastic interior trim. the internals went bad, and it kept sending a signal to the BCM that it was being shaken, when nothing was touching the car. set the alarm off. could also be a bad BCM, but that has to be replaced by the dealership, as it must be reprogramed.

Well, my alarm went back to normal again.. Hmm.. Wondering if its due to the constant wet climate that NJ is having.. Probably its due wet wires.. After I used manual locking method for a night plus the fact that the following was a dry day, the problem just sorta go away. Kinda of freak me out though... Not sure if it will come back again.. Its pouring Halle Berry as I type!

The most common problems with OEM alarms are bad door pin switches either in the doors, hood, or rear hatch. Normally if that's the problem you'll notice the domelights comming on by themselves. Another is bad battery cables or connections or even a bad battery itself.
