Should I insulate

I'm into my 3rd winter with my X, made a winter front which helps the X heat up a bit faster, helps cabin heat when driving into a cold wind, but I find the X cools down faster than any other truck I've had. (Short stops)
I'm debating insulating the underside of the hood, but not 100% sure of the consequences in summer & winter. Should I just leave well enough alone ?

I noticed my truck gets heat faster with the electric fan installed...maybe an option for you?

I dont think insulating the hood will do anything. You might try the electric fan but I think you did the right thing with the winter front if it does indeed get that cold. If you post your location other posters might be able to give more info.

I sort of assumed people knew I'm in Montreal, Quebec. (I've updated my profile accordingly) I was just comparing the X with my other previous trucks. Its not so much getting heat into the cabin, but keeping the engine closer to operating temp. after short stops.

How quickly the engine cools is probably mostly a function of two things. One, the types of metals used for the engine block. I don't know if any aluminium is used in the xterra (I'm not getting mine until May), but aluminium has a much greater heat transfer rate than cast iron. This lets the engine warm up faster, but also cool down faster. And two, the surface area of your oil pan exposed to the elements. There may be other significant factors, but this is what I could come up with without actually getting under the hood.
