'97 ABS light

'97 with ABS light that stays on. This began more than a year ago and the light would be on one time and then off the next time the car was driven. Length of time staying on increased to present condition of "on" all of the time. Had brakes and rotors replaced and the shop could find no problem and said that I should ignore it. However, it bothers me and wonder if there may actually be more involved than a defective sensor. Any ideas or suggestions?

A defective sensor would be my guess as well. Know anybody with an OBDII reader? This will tell you which sensor(s) is bad.

Thanks randman1. Too bad I can't still use the old paper clip and count the flashes. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay for the analysis. Also, it seems that somewhere in the back resesses of my memory I recall reading that sometimes something causes the sensor wiring to get cut and that this should be checked out as well. Ring any bells with you?

Disconnedted or poor connections come to mind. Sensors, connectors and road grime don't play well together. You could pull each wheel off and inspect the wires, etc or you could try auto parts places like Auto Zone. I believe they will pull codes for free if you ask nicely (or have a great set of legs)

You've most likely got an open circuit on one or more of your abs sensors at the wheel. Pull each one off and make sure its clean and seated in it's socket tightly. You should also inspect the exposed wiring to make sure it's not shorted or opened. If you have an OBD II reader it won't help you as the OBD II doesn't talk to the ABS computer.

I had a bad sensor and the brake with the bad sensor froze up. I pulled the fuse and that took care of the problem this disables the ABS system
( I didn't like the price of $900 to repair the system which included the computer) Did you check your fuse,? if it is blown the light will stay on.
