Ghosts and UFO's do the exist??

Do you believe in ghosts?
Have you ever seen one??
What about UFO's?
Seen any little green dudes??
I have seen a ghost, and also been witness to unexplainable happenings.
I have also watched what I was sure was a UFO, but I have never seen little green dudes (or dudettes).

A UFO is an Unidentified Flying Object. Of course I believe people have seen some flying things that they cant identify. Does that mean that I believe in flying saucers? Not unless someone is throwing around some dishes.
As for ghosts. Nope - dont believe their trudging around either.

Is there other life in the universe? You bet. But probably not near us.

You beat me to it YogsVR4 - Sure I believe in UFOs, I've seen lots of flying things that I can't identify. :)
But I have seen absolutely no convincing (or even interesting) evidence for either spirits/ghosts/etc. or extraterrestrial aliens/ships/etc.
Although when I was about 6-8 years old, I did have some terrible nightmares about ghosts taking me away from my parents...
PS> There is one minor exeption to that, there is some interesting evidence of possiblefossilized bacteria on mars - which would make it an extraterrestrial life-form. :)

I'm normally very skeptical about ghosts and things like that, but my wife and her friends have some spectacular ghost stories. One friend has video from his vacation in Dublin, in the Christ Church Cathedral, where you can hear weird moaning/growling voices in the background, and he swears it was silent when he was in there.

extraterrestrials? its ignorant to not be open to it and at least acknowledge to concept, coz science pretty much says "yes" its all probability............now, the chance that theyve been here? THATS something you can doubt.....
as for ghosts........mmhhmm, personal experience on multiple occasions, but i guess i should provide a disclaimer just in case any skeptics are carrying flamethrowers....i cant actually prove it, i mean how could you? and if it happened again id probably see what caused it in terms of "reality" and whats known and understood

I do believe that we are not alone in the universe. I mean, if we were able to form, what would stop it from happening elsewhere???
As for ghosts/spooks/etc I would say that I have indeed seen one. My area/hometown is ridden with coalmines, and we know for fact that people did indeed die in them. I have seen the ghost that people call "the coalminer's daughter." I've also heard some strange things in a local spookspot aptly called Hell where we once heard Celtic chants off in the distance despite the severe lack of housing near by.
I guess I'm just a fool for those of you who don't believe, but when you have seen entirely inexplicable things, you begin to wonder.......

Just remember, just becuase you may not have the answer doesnt mean there isn't one.
Like I said, I dont believe we've been "visited" - is their life out there? Maybe. I'd like to think so anyway. I believe in that more then ghosts. At least both ETs and ghosts make for good movies

Existance of Ghosts? Please! there are always other far less interesting explanations. If you have seen one then all it means is you have a very active and controlling imagination.
UFO's? I saw one last night. But sure it as hell wasnt extraterrestial.
As for us being alone in the universe? Well I happen to like the Drake equation.

This subject came up when I was watching the Discovery Channel the other night. I remembered some of the things that have happened, that were inexplicable.
UFO: One night a buddy and I were watching the stars, talking about other universes. I pointed out to him what appeared to be a falling star. It was that small, and appeared to be as high as the rest of the highly visable stars. It went about 3' from the point I first spotted it, and stopped. Then about 5 seconds later it took off in a totally different direction, and was out of sight in 6-7 seconds. I would have thought I was going loco if someone else hadn't witnessed it.
Ghosts: I was at a neighbors house. We were sitting there playing Tendo. His little Cocker Spaniel got on the coffee table and started eating his sandwich. He paused the game, took the dog into the back bedroom and shut the door. I heard the door go "Click" from the latch closing. Keep in mind that this is a small dog, and probably couldn't have reached the knob even if it jumped. Anyway, he was just coming back into the living room, and I heard the knob turn and out came the dog. He emitted a couple foul words, put the dog back in the bedroom, re-closed the door, and shook it to make sure it was closed. He had just sat down, when I heard the knob again, and out came the dog. At this point he just let the dog outside. Then about two weeks later we were sitting there playing Tendo again, when we both stopped, looked to our right. I saw, without any doubt in my mind a beautiful brunette, mid to late 20's wearing a V neck dress, with lace around the V neck, the dress was long and light blue. She was gone in a second. We both went back to playing, and finally I asked him if he saw something too. He told me he see's her all the time. Then he commented, "who do you think kept letting the dog out?". It wasn't a scary experience, actually very serene.
I know ghosts exist.
If anyone has any thoughts to help me disprove my UFO, I would appreciate it.

By definition (as stated earlier) that was a UFO. It was flying and you couldn't identify it. Was it a spaceship? Nope.

Ghosts probably do exist... And I'll explain why:
Our brains, or more accurately, our consciousness (soul? call it what you want). Anyway, inside our brains is an electromagnetic field. This field of energy is what makes thought possible... We all have it.
OK, are we all in agreement that this field of energy exists inside our heads?
Well, energy cannot be eliminated.
Energy can be transformed, but will always be a form of energy.
So what happens when we die? That energy/our soul does not 'die', it cannot die, it will be some form of energy....FOREVER.
Could some energy from deceased people's minds manifest itself in some way in the environment where that person frequented in life, or where they died? Obviously!
As far as me personally seeing or not seeing ghosts...or aliens, I decline to comment, due to my recreational chemical ingestion at or around the times that I may have seen such things.:smoka:
I do feel it would be an incredible waste of the universe if we were the only 'intelligent' ones in it.

First of all it is true there is an em filed and it is not restricted to the brain. It is there because the way we are build we carry a residual electric charge -have you ever got shocked?-. Also the brain does not function on an elctromagnetic field it functions by transmiting electric and chemical signals between axons and dendrites. The electromagnetic field is caused by the electric signals. Any wire with an electric current will have an electromagnetic field.
Also when energy is transformed it is in the form of matter and vice versa. and it is true that nothing is lost only transformed. But any pattern of energy or matter (like a human for example) can be destroyed.

Hmmm... So the chemical energy of gasoline in my Prelude is somebody's soul? Cool. ;)
Conservation of Energy is a solid physical priciple (it cannot be destroyed, only transfomed from one state to another). But Neutrino has is exactly right, it is the patterns in the energy that make things interesting. A car is pretty interesting, but if you melt it down into a large block of steel, it stops being so interesting - and in fact, it retains no memory of the car it once was. Even though that block of steel contains just as much energy as it did when it was a car - it does not have the ability to become a car again on it's own. It's lost the pattern.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics (the concept of Entropy) shows us that many processes are not reversible. Energy that changes state cannot necessarily return to it's previous state without the addition of Energy from some external source. This is why there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. Patterns in energy cannot be sustained indefinitely, they all decay.
The energy contained within you will continue essentially forever - but the patterns will not. And it is those patterns which make you "you", otherwise you're just a boring heap of chemicals. Even if conciousness were a pattern of electromagnetic waves (which it is not), once the pattern is lost, conciousness is lost - even though the energy still exists.
Here's another way to look at it: matter is also conserved (Einstein showed that it's just a form of energy). Every atom that makes up this entire planet - every atom that makes up you - was once formed in the core of some star with a thermonuclear reaction*. But you are not a star, you don't even resemble a star. The atoms in you have no memory of ever being a star. The pattern has been lost to Entropy.
* except Hydrogen and perhaps some Helium which were probably formed sometime soon after the big bang - before there were any stars.

Also think of this. As light tries to escape from a Neutron star it loses energy and that is why the light emitted from a Neutron is red. Just a thought.

OK OK, you guys shot me down for not being absolutely right, but you get what I was saying, right?
Here's some more ammo for you guys:
Our consciousness is a ball of energy, with some pattern. That is agreed?
I bet that sometimes after a person dies, this pattern, or at least part of the pattern is preserved somehow.
Many hauntings appear to be pieces of time in someone's life replayed over and over like a broken record. Could that be the only part of the pattern that was preserved?
Also, remembering the ball of energy thing...Many so called pictures of ghosts have been pictures of unexplained balls of light... Is that a little trippy?
Ghosts being faint, or transparent could be the diminishment of energy
(Polygon's neutron star example).
Oh and polygon, I may not be a star, but I'll always
be a rockstar :ylsuper
To really mix things up, maybe ghosts are really just aliens!:alien:
Neat side note: Just saw on Discovery show about the Integratron.
Was a building built in middle of nowhere to commune with aliens/rejuvenate people/who knows. BUilt buy some old test pilot who, aside from this building, seemed like a pretty normal guy.

Nope. I'm not sure where you got this, but neutron stars emit mostly X-rays and very little if any visible light. Pulsars (fast spinning neutron stars) do emit more visible light, but that is from the particle jets at the poles. The particles are moving at nearly the speed of light, and random collisions can produce light over a wide spectrum. I'm not sure how you got the notion that red light from a star somehow 'loses' energy?
Energy cannot be destroyed, it's the first law of thermodynamics. Somtimes, in non-rigorous parlance, we say that something 'loses' Energy - by which we actually mean that it has transferred it's Energy somewhere else. If you have a hot frying pan on the stove and turn off the burner, the pan will begin to 'lose' Energy (it gets cooler) - but in reality, it is just transferring it's heat Energy to the air around it. So the pan gets cooler and the air gets warmer - no Energy is actually lost.
dre - I suppose I get what you are saying, it might make a fine fictional story, but as science it's absolute crap (no personal offense intended. :) ).
The Tooth fairy must be real. I thought I saw her when I was little, so did a friend of mine. But there is some really simple proof: all these kids put their tooth under their pillow one night and wake up with money in it's place. Therfore she must be real since that simply couldn't happen any other way! I'm starting a non-profit foundation for the study of TFP (the Tooth Fairy Phenomenon). We'll be in association with MUFON and the Integratron Center.

Sorry to tell you this but recently while making a transaction in bronx the tooth fairy was mugged and in the resulting altercation she was shot and now is dead.
A moment of silence for the tooth fairy.

Yes, Neutron stars emit very little light but the light they do emit appears red because of energy loss while trying to escape the incredible amount of gravity. It was my point that things can loose energy such as light. That energy is not destroyed, just made into matter or other forms of energy.

the likely hood of other life out there *points up * is not very likely but the universe is infinite so that kinda makes probablity useless

Ohh.. Your talking about gravitational redshift. You're right, photons do lose kinetic energy when coming out of gravity well. They don't lose it as matter though - it just transforms from kinetic to potential energy. The photon itself retains all that energy.
Potential energy = mass * gravity * height -- so as the photons get higher above the gravity well they have an increase in potential energy. As there is conservation of energy, the kinetic energy must lose an exactly equal amount to what the potential energy gains. And a photon's kinetic energy is proportional to it's freqency. So as a photon gains potential energy, it's frequency must go down.
i.e. As a photon leaves a gravity well, it's frequency decreases; but it's total amount of energy stays exactly the same.
This phenomena is called 'gravitational redshift' because it shifts the spectrum of the energy emitted downwards towards the red end of the spectrum (decreased frequency).
AFAIK, in the case of neutron stars, they probably emit high frequency X- and gamma rays (around an picometer wavelength) at the surface which then are redshifted down to lower frequency X-rays (around an nanometer wavelength - 1000 times less) after escaping the gravity well. Any visible light generated near a neutron star probably comes from collisions in extra matter swirling around it, not from the star itself, and thus is subject to very little redshift. (Visible red light is around 700 nanometers in wavelength)

Quasars do emit lots of red light, although that's from the doppler redshift since they are so far away (and therefore moving very fast).

well i think this is very interesting, i am a creationist first of all. i love the big bang theory.lol everything was once in one place? how small? most of all why? and what is the point of life when we die? do you think we just die and thats it? what happens to our souls? obviously they dont roam the earth well ill say not all of them for you ghost ppl.
Did anyone ever belive or hear about demons being on earth before us?
Read the first few scriptures of the bible.but very carefully. theres a start. well it is if you know that god dosent make anything formless and empty.:) thats in there too.
And for the people who dont believe in the bible or creation in the beginning. i wonder why countless people have this religion. and nothing in the bible has been proven wrong? alot of things scientists agree with. hmm and were getting back to what happens when you die?do you think 100 years (or whenever you die i put 100 cause most die before then) is everything you were created for?
and for alein people. there sure is alot of room out there for other life. i agree. considerind heaven is 1440 miles cubed(revelation) there is plenty, most people think its bigger than that. dont know about hell , im sure its bigger, but i guess everyone doesnt belive in that. if this world would have lasted a little longer i might have thought ufo's were some kind of time machine, and people going back in time. the humans, or something like that. but it would only make sense to see them on big days people would want to learn about ,9/11 attacks for example, a perfect time, b/c nobody was paying any attention to the skies. ive got some other ideas if you are a creationist and want to know, i should have a scriputre to back it up.:)
