hey people, I just got my car back from the dealer. the bastards did an oil change on it despite the fact that I didnt want nor needed one. the thing is that my oils pressure is running much lower now (it was really high before) so I guess oild does make a difference. My question is what kind of oil do you guys use on your car? I use 10W40 Royal Purple Synthetic. I also thumbed throught the manual and cant find the factory oil they use, does anyone know?

Yeah, I'm curious to know to because I'm going to be changing mine pretty soon as well....

Musashi3000GT, so what did the dealership say was wrong with your car? Did they fix it?

they fixed it but they didnt say what really happened. the excuse was the throttle body was not "up to factory spec" I'm not a mechanical engineer but I know that throttle bodies either work or they dont and the only thing you can adjust on that is the tension to the accelerator cable so to me it sounds like a BS excuse. the point is she is back and running well so I'm happy. the issue is that the oil they put in my car has changed the way the car behaves (at least the pressure in the crank case has dropped) so now im concerned cause I dont know which oil is right for these cars.

i use 20 50. since i tend to run her pretty hard at times, thats what i use. for a couple reasons.

1. it keeps my lifters from making that clicking noise.
2. its thicker, and since our cars engines get really hot, it withstands the heat a lot better.

in the manual it will calculate that 20-50 is the stuff to use if your gonna drive strong

yea i run 10W40 also but Mobil 1 syntetic and man if ur running Royal Purple and ur spending that much might as well go all out and buy Red Line man cause it's worth it. lol and i thought Mobil 1 was Expensive, Mobile 1 looks like mcdonalds compared to what ur using lol

I've used Royal Purpule, Motul and Redline before. I just like Royal Purpule best, seems to compliment the cars personality. but on my old SRT-4 Mobil 1 worked better then the three I mentioned before. wierd huh?

Its normally your oil finter that makes the most different on oil presure, but the OEM are considered the best by many. When you did your oil change did you take a Mitsubishi oil filter off? If so what did you put on?

I use K&N or Fram X2 depending on which is most readily available at the autopart by my house.

There is a really good oil filter comparison on www.stealth316.com on the 'technical' page under the 'engine' column. I thought it was worth the read. And currently I'm using Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic.

if the oil filter makes a difference in your oil pressure then the filter is plugged.

the filter should not affect the oil pressure in any tangible way!!!

the filter is defenetnly making the difference. I just tryed it myself (very expensive little project but its the only way to be sure.) the car came back from the dealer with the factory filter from mitsubishi. so I drove it at around 80mph and the pressure needle was marking towards the lower middle, 4 marks below max pressure (which is the longer mark up toward the top of the guage) I changed the filter for a fram X2 filter and the oil was the same, the pressure then read 1 mark below max at 80mph. too high in my opinion. then I switched the filter for a K&N filter , same oil, and at 80mph it was at 2 marks below max. I held the speed for about 2 minutes all times to eliminate possible fluctuation in pressure and my friend marked the pressure level.....conclusion: the oil filters are the difference in oil pressure.
