Timing belt

Has anyone had bad experiences with their timing belts giving out, and if so, at what mileage did it happen? I have almost 114,000 miles on mine and am thinking I should probably just go have it done, but I wanted to make sure it was necessary. The manual suggests doing it at 90,000 miles, is that accurate? If so, im in trouble!!
Also should anything else be done when and if I get it changed?
Thanks for all your help!

yea, u better get it changed. i have 85,000 miles on my car and im gonna get my belt changed withing a month or two. im first waiting to buy my crower cams, valve springs, cam gears before i do the timing belt change. i'll kill 2 birds with one stone. also when u change the timing belt, u should also change the water pump!

Change your belt IMMEDIATELY. I have a g2 with about 98,000 miles on it and my timing belt snapped the other day. I didnt think much of it, just a few hundred for it to get changed (cause its a bitch job to do) next thing I Know, im told that a few valves were bent when the belt snapped. Now im in the process of swapping heads.

I recommend fixing it before it breaks also bro. it will cost you over 3 times the price if u dont. if you do the work it will take you a good part of the day if u do it right and take your time but like boosted said you should change the pump too cuz most of the time that is what goes. the water pump freezes and snaps the belt plus theres no point in doing it again as long as u change the pump also but call an acura dealer and see how much they charge as opposed to some half assd mechanic because they warranty there work there the dealer. and you get factory parts and the only thing better than a factory timing belt is one made for a turbo car which run about a 130 for a nice greddy belt so plan ahead also on what u wanna do in the future and put some good stuff on it while its off.

I am also with these people CHANGE IT, I would never go 24k miles over the reccomended interval, especially when I know whats at stake if it breaks, and it costs lie 60 bucks and takes a few hours. only bitch is the crank pulley, that nuts a tough one to break, I was spinning my passenger side tire on the gorund before the pulley nut broke loose(it had been tightened by a impact wrench I found out though, so...)

Thanks for all the input guys, seems like something I definately need to take care of soon.
I called the local Acura dealer and they charge $800 for a timing belt and water pump replacement!! Is that legit? I know some of you have done it yourself, but for those that didn't, is that how much you paid? $800 seems kind of steep to me. Unfortunately i'm not good enough with cars to even ATTEMPT to do it myself! Anyone have suggestions on where to go to get it done? I live in the Detroit, MI area.
Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!
BTW- someone mentioned doing other stuff to the car while I had it taken apart for the timing belt change...what kind of other stuff would be useful to do at this time?
Sorry for all the questions but remember i'm still a newbie!!!! :p

800...yeah thats about Right, the Acura Man is a bit expensive but if you dont know of any other good quality shop to do it at i'd say stick to the Man. i got mine changed out at a shop i got referred to and it came out to like 650 so it wasnt too hard on the pockets. :nutkick:

800 bucks!!!!! wow, thats the first quote on a price i've ever seen for a timing belt change. damn sure lucky im gonna do mine myself. im gonna go by my friends shop and do it there. im gonna be doing everything myself, but i wanna make sure im doing everything rigth, so i'll have my friend watch over me while im doing it.
if u read how to do it like 10 times (thats what i did) it shouldnt be that hard to do.

I have only paid for one thing in my entire life on my car, and i was never shown how, and I dont get watched over. buy a helms manual for your car, and tghen just read the timing belt replacement section a couple times through, more if you think you need to, and go for it. just take it slow so you dont mess anything up, and double, triple and quadruple check that the cam gears marks line up and the crank pulley mark hits the t-belt cover as well before you ever turn the key over.
and if you were planning on cam gears, cams, soething like that, its a god time to do it at the same time since it will be torn apart already. only thing is if you want to do those, you dont have the option to wait and keep driving it until you save for the cams and stuff before you do it all at once, its already way past due.
