Hey guys,
I just recently bought a 98 red vr4 with 55,000 miles on it. I've been reading on the forums for a couple months but have decided to finally register and am getting more into the racing environment. I traded my 99 black 3000gt sl in for the vr4. Anyways, I have a couple questions reguarding the vr4...
1. I've noticed a grinding noise shifting from 1st to 2nd when racing...it isn't there in casual driving. I saw that a couple other people had the problem as well, what did u do to fix it?
2. Everything on my car is stock. Now, i know i need to upgrade my boost guage and get a boost controller...but with the car stock, i don't run the risk of over pressure on the turbos do i?
3. I have a race lined up with a 2002 TA ws6 with borla exhaust and K&N air filter upgraded to it....I don't have a chance do i with no upgrades?
Anyways, any suggestions on where to get a nice guage and boost control that won't break the bank...would be great...thanks for the time and look forward to helping others out in the future.

1. problem probably is the syncro's solution get new one's. No idea how much they cost
2.if everythings stock and you dont mess with anything you shouldn't over boost. with everything stock ive heard you can turn it up to like 14 1/2 after that you need to do some upgrades
3. ??
Here's a good site for alot of questions and staged upgrades http://www.daveblack.net/asp/3SiFAQ.asp I 've read this for hours.
There's alot of other sites out there type on google 3000gt performance.

Glad you signed up :) 98 VR4s are very sharp.
1. Yeah - the syncro is starting to go. YoungVR4 is going through that right now and once he sees this thread he can give you some amounts.
2. Yes - you don't want to turn up the boost to far. Going to 14psi is a very safe number without upgrading the fuel system. Get an open air filter and open the exaust as well.
3. You have a chance. From stop light to stop light, you'll eat him up because of your AWD. After about a 1/8 mile, he'll start reeling you in and then pull away. However, if he's not a very good driver and you are, you can very well win every kind of race.

kormex has the parts you need. i'll get the number here in a second. your 1st and 2nd gear syncro's are gonna be $100 each 3rd and up are $80.
thing is there not actually the syncro's there the........... gosh i cant' remember right now but, they wear out and don't hold any longer. find a transmision shop and ask how much to simply just install these parts. i got a guy doing mine for $450 so $750 to fix my problem
