My wipers seem to fail working at times.I think the switch is worn because they resume working if I hold the switch towards me. The cruise control works ok. and sometimes when I signal to turn, the wipers stop in their tracks. Does anyone know if there is a wiper switch in the ignition and if the steering wheel has to come off to replace it. Thanks, as wipers are a necessity in a downpour. :spit:

If the wiper controls are on the stalk on the side of the steering wheel, which I am certain they are you need a new one. They are available at Autozone for about $40 and to replace them the steering wheel needs to come off. This is a very common problem.

Thanks for your reply GTP Dad. My controls are on the stalk on the left side of the steering wheel. Is it the switch inside that needs replacing or the whole stalk thing? The wipers were the last reliable thing to go but i'm sure after 270,000 kms, it was a good run.

The switch is in the stalk and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire stalk. I would say you got your money's worth out of the original. They are not too hard to change. You will need a steering wheel puller and a locking plate compressor. They can be rented if you don't have one. If you have an airbag you will need to disarm the system before attempting to remove it however. If not the job should take about an hour. The stalk just plugs in to a couple of contacts and there are a couple of screws that hold it in place. Good Luck.
