HP on SR20

Hola... I've been wondering how much HP you can put on an SR20 because I'm planning to put an SR20 on a Datsun 510. I know the car isn't street legal with the motor, so what type of turbo should I install? T28s, TDO4, TDO5, TDO6, or a TDO7? Also, will a T51R fit in a 510? and What's the max HP you can get on an SR20 fully equipped?

you need a new mainfold or flang for the new turbo.. it should fit in the car, as for hp with internals done as much as 600hp.. w/o internals i seen around 420whp.. but mae sure u have good fuel managment..

DUDE.... what the fuck? After making that other thread on SR20 legality, you still are confused! Putting that motor in a Datsun, you don't have to worry about it being illegal or not because it's emissions exempt! SR motors can pass tailpipe tests if tuned properly. You only have to worry about the motor being "street legal" if your state has a visual test when you go to get smogged.

Dont take it to the ass man. Its just that Cali is so damn strict with it.

It used to be all about the SR, that if you wanted a good engine for your 240 then the SR is the way to go, it seems like it's going to the other extreme now, people are going KA all the way.

A Ferrari V12 makes more power, why don't you swap that in? Maybe a big block Chevy engine? How about one of them jet engines off of an F-16? They all make "more power", we should be putting them in our 240s. They make "more power" so they must be better at everything, in every situation.

well logik, your campaign to piss in my water every thread I post in is mildly agitating, of course it would help if what you said was valid or intimidating LOL
yes I believe, that when people modifiy their engines, it is in search of MORE POWER so that they can GO FASTER.......
correct me if im wrong

Glad you're enjying it, but seriously, if all you want is more power then get a 5000hp top fueler, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's more to an engine then the horsepower, maybe someone likes the SR more then the KA, maybe there's something about it that people like, and besides, if the KA is so much better, why didn't they use it in Japan for the Silvia and 180SX?

Thanks turbo2nr.....and mynismo...how much money does it take to do something like that?
a setup with 400whp costs about 2.5k. all you need is a big turbo, fuel, and management. example: http://www.jgycustoms.com/240sx/turbokits.htm
i love how the ka turbo kit puts 220hp at the crank for almost $4k, and how the sr kit puts out 400whp for 2.5k. hmm i wonder why that could be :lol2:
remember you have to get an exhaust, fmic, lsd, good tires, brakes...... it adds up. i spent a good 10k on my current setup for around 250whp. that includes chassis, (everything new) xdrilled rotors, good tires, fmic, intake, 3.7" exhaust, plugs, all new gaskets/hoses, header, thermostat, greddy gauges, racing harnesses, bov, hotpipe, koyo aluminum, dual flexalites, flywheel, clutch, downpipe, tension rods, turbo outlet, etc etc etc and a very very reliable installation. if i'd install everything myself i'd be looking at around 8.5k.
i basically maxed out the turbo, have a very good mileage, low 13 sec car with fmic thats really reliable, handles very well, doesn't have overheating problems and really doesn't need to have any major money thrown at it for at least another 30-40k miles (considering everything starts and goes well the first time).
there are a lot of hidden expenses in the sr install. if you are going fmic... plan on spending at least 5k for a rolling chassis with the basic clutch/exhaust, and if you are installing it yourself. its worth it because the ka is a complete piece of shit.

if you call the ka24de a complete piece of shit you know very little about cars and engines.......
Just the construction of the block, its material iron, and the head blow the SR out of the fucking water, then u have things like more displacement=more power.
how is it a fair comparison to say 4 grand for 200rwhp on a KAT and 2.5grand for 400hp on a SR20.
ok so 5 grand to installed sr20, then 2.5grand to get 400rwhp, thats 6,500 total, but you just said you spent 10 grand to get 250rwhp.(so you claim)
if it costs you 4 grand for all the turbo parts buying them yourself, you have a screw lose. For that price I could turbo the car and completely rebuild the engine, something your 5grand junkyard motor normally doesn't have.
how do you point to one website that shows this whacked price, and then say it only takes 2.5k to make 400rwhp on a SR? thats fucking dumb from a punk ass ricer.
anyhow, people are running 350rwhp reliably(the whole thing about reliable in a turbo car is how well everything is thought out and installed) on KA's with an intercooler, bov, turbo, wasitegate, boost controller, exhaust, k&N filter, used injectors, and a hacked MAF. People run t hose setups for a long time for many miles. Im even surprised at the HP level today's cars are making with hacked maf's.

If you include the price of the engine and installation for the SR20DET then you should include the price of the engine and installation for a KA24DE for someone over in Japan. If you already have the car with the engine in it and you start from there, it's the only way to find the true cost of geting more power, if you disagree, you're retarded.
His 10 grand was also to get suspension, brakes, etc. Not just the engine. So try reading posts before making statements.

yes but sr20detpower has a point.....6,500 for the sr20 nismo has already spent as he said right?
u could buy a used ka for 500 doallars. That leaves 6000 to rebuild with aftermarket parts (if needed) and buy other parts for turbo setup and have a good fast car that would definently get 400 horsies, am i right???? Stop showing gay kits too...kits are way overpriced thats why people usually peice the shit together themselves. i dont know one person to actually buy a "kit". Most people pick and choose. like i said before also that kit is rated at 6 PSI!!!!! who honestly will leave it at that PSI...o yea no one.

Yes, over here, we can get a KA24 for like 500$, but the SR is a JDM engine, we can't compare the 2 prices, we would have to look at how much it would be to swap out the SR and put in the KA in Japan.

sr20's used to be under $500 to import before the damn trend caught on.
and here is the almighty list of costs. NO, i didn't spend it all on the engine. i have new tires, tension rods, chassis, install... everything. add it up.
there are a lot of hidden costs for both swaps that people never post about because they either think they can get away with rigging it up and popping the motor for the least amount of $$$ and not getting new parts.... then there's other people like me who get everything new, do it right the first time and get all new hoses, belts, etc. and do it right. dont get me wrong, im not ragging on anyone who can get it done cheaper to conserve costs, but if you want a very very well done swap (and car for that matter), this is what you have to do:
