Vapor lock?

My wife has a 94 cont. and whenever it gets 90+ degr. out the car starts to run crappy and then dies either if she is going 10 or 70 mph. If the car sits for about half an hour or more it starts right up with very little or no problems at all.... I was wondering if the fuel rail being so confined between the engine and intake manifold might be causing fuel in rail to boil...vapor lock... Has anyone experienced this and what have ya done to cure this problem... thank you for any help.

When was the last time you cleaned the EGR channels?

I have never cleaned them... off the top of my head i'm not sure where they are... it's my wife's car and she doesn't really let me mess with it... not even a K&N filter/cold air intake!!! lol If ya got a pic to show me i'll try cleaning them when she isn't looking!! lol If those were dirty wouldn't it affect it all the time? thanks..

Come to think of it, this is the Conti we're talking about, it may be a bit different but worth a look.

As for the fuel rails, the only way they can vaporlock is if the fuel pump / fuel return is somehow failing. If the rails are always full there can be no vapor.

Could any of the above articles that you posted be affected by the outside temp being hot...like 90 degrees and sunny? Thats the ONLY time that it does it..when it's hot out.. I called lincoln dealer and talked to a mek a nik and he said that vapor lock was known to happen with the fuel rails located in such a confined space... but of course was real vague so I would go there to "pay his wages", in other words get ass raped by ford!! lol
I'll check into some of those articles and see if one might be the culprit... In the past I have had two cars that have had vapor lock and the symptoms are almost identicle...only difference is that the continental is F inj. whereas mine was carb type probs/vapor lock. Well, VaporLock is really nonexistant anymore due to todays designs, here's some rough details:

I've read in several places that a sticking thermostat (overheating the engine) might be the cause of this "air in the fuel rail". Is the car overheating too ?

Also, you'll find this next post very interesting... it's on a ford board where a guy had a vapor problem that was finally traced back to the fuel pump.

She has had some coolant loss... not anything to spaz over but i'll check into it...the thermostat...
Have you heard of any certain brands that are known to do this?
Or ones that are good?

Sorry, no. I normally choose the major brands when selecting something like that. Even with those, you get the "made in china" label.

back to the fuel pump possibility... we had a new pump put in awhile ago... and it did it before when the old one was in... still diggin... thanks for the suggestions... gonna get a new thermostat this weekend... i'll let ya know next week.... or whenever the temp gets back up there....TY
