My name is Sean and I'm an IPMS Orlando member. If you are a model car builder and wish to enter a show next year in April in the Orlando area, please contact me at eubangee@yahoo.com for your input and for more information. I'm looking for feedback on what classes we should have and how many people wish to attend. In past shows there weren't too many cars, especially lowriders and euros, most models being military models, and the club and I want that to changethat this year. Also, if you are in the Orlando area and want to join IPMS visit www.ipmsorlando.com and come to one of our meetings. Model car clubs, please contact me!

Thanks for responding. I was told by the older members that there weren't alot of cars so they had to eliminate classes. I went to a show in Titusville back in May and there weren't a lot of cars there either. Also, I want competition.

Hmmmmmm, I may have to stop by in August. I guess one just shows up at a meeting to join? I live near where the meetings take place, on Econ between HWY 50 and University.
As far as compitition for you... :iceslolan I think I'm up for it. I am on a Rally car kick right now, with an import car/motorcycle/star ship/robot/gaming minature/anime resin/modern or WWII armor/aircraft kit thrown in occasionally to keep the boredom at bay.

One shows up at a meet and if you like what you see you pay $25 a year ($12 if you're 17 and under), which goes to club funds (the car show, for example) and they're not a lot of members (I'd say no more than 30) and we're looking for more club members, especially car builders.

By the way, nice Focus you have in your gallery. Bring it to the next meet for show and tell.

Thanks, but that Focus is an Autoart 1/18 scale diecast. I am working on the 1/24 scale version though. I updated my Gallery with two models I have built and happen to have pics of on my computer that are ready to go. Have quite a bit more, just no pics yet.

I'll see you then. As for the Focus, it's still nice, but still bring something to show your skills. I need to know what I'm competing against. :icon16:

Tonioseven, if you visit the website you will see that the meetings are on the last Mondays of every month, so I think you'll have time to come if you're not busy. You'll also find directions on the website. As for Supraman, it doesn't really matter if you think your models aren't good enough. You never know, you could leave with a trophy. Like I said before, there weren't too many people who entered cars in past shows. Plus not everything is about winning. Enter your car(s) just for the hell of it. have fun. I'm entering three cars and I'm not expecting a trophy for either one of them. It's the fun of building them and showing them off. Anyway, thanks a lot guys for responding.

I'm in Florida and have been a member of the Suncoast Model Car Club for the last 13 years or so. I know Orlando is considered the "central" location but for those of us in the Tampa Bay area having to navigate that trecherous stretch of I-4 from Tampa to Orlando makes for a less than enjoyable experience! Especially now during the never-ending construction delays ( I know since I've already made a few trips to the Disney Sports Complex to watch the Buccaneers practice! ).
I know IPMS is trying to attract more car guys but after years of nastiness towards car modelers and just plain rude behavior from some of the military and aircraft guys most car builders I know of steer clear of IPMS events unless it's the Nationals. I'll see if any of the guys in my club ( Suncoast Model Car Club ) or the newest club "MAGS" ( Modeling Associates of the Gulf State ) may be willing to make the trip.
Also, if you are interested, there's a model show ( no swap meet for models, just the 1:1 cars ) making it's return to the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa on October 8, 9 & 10. It's held in conjunction with the Southeast Street Rod Nationals and sponsored by the NSRA ( National Street Rod Association ). Not only will there be 1500+ 1:1, pre-1949 street rods parked all over the fairgrounds, but the model contest will have 12 classes and over 60 awards. Plaques for 1st - 3rd Place as well as specialty awards. The show has been on a "hiatus" of sorts for the last 5 years but has been "resurrected"! Although nothing has been confirmed I believe that at least 2 of the hobby's biggest names ( who also live in Florida ) will be there to help - one is the owner of a widely known and reputable model car aftermarket company based on Florida's East coast and the other is a true icon in the hobby whose metal-working skills and attention to the tiniest of details have graced the covers of Scale Auto for years and has won multiple Best in Shows at GSLMCC ( and has since "retired" from competition ). More info on the Tampa show, hosted by the "MAGS" club, can be had by emailing a request with "Street Rod Nats" in the subject line to:
modelers@hotmail.com
Registration is Friday 10am - 5pm; Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - Noon. In past years it was not unusual to have nearly 150-175 models on the tables and one year there were just over 200 entries!
As for competition in the contests, check out my site and see if I would qualify........

<sigh> I just looked on the website to double check on the location of the meeting and discovered I missed it. For some reason I thought it was on the last Monday of the month, not the fourth. Oh well, next month then.
