87 B2000: Interference engine?

I'm sure this question has been asked, but I couldn't find the answer...
I've got a 1987 B2000. I'm pretty sure I've got the 1998cc engine.
I had to change the H20 pump, decided to change the timing belt as well. Water pump was no problem, but I screwed up the timing- I didn't tighten the tensioner bolt enough, and when I went to start it, the timing belt spun off one of the cogs.
I took it apart, lined it back up, locked down the tensioner bolt, put it back to gether. Would start, but wouldn't turn over. Sounded a little off.
Took it apart for the 3rd time last night. Double checked belt alignment. I think it's good. Although when I manually turn the crankshaft, I get a lot of resistance at certain points and I get a creaking/squealing noise.
I do have the spark plugs OUT, so there's no compression.
I didn't think this was an interference engine, but I got to wondering, could I have really screwed up the engine when the belt popped the tensioner bolt off?
Any input appreciated!

yes you probably warped the valves

on my buddy's B2000 or maybe it was a B2200 he chewed the teeth off his timing belt. we tried to start it and the crankshaft just turned. we replaced the timing belt and it was magic. worked perfect. even after he sat there and cranked the motor for well over a minute (before the belt replacement, he thought he was out of gas) the valves had no clearance issues. have you thought that maybe you just don't have the timing set right? maybe you're 180 out? did you make sure that the motor was at TOP dead center on the #1 piston before you set your cam timing?

b2000 not an interference engine i was doin about 70 in mine when the balancer bolt decide to leave its home and the belt came off too even at high rpms had no problems id look somewhere else not the valves or pistons

I have an 86 B2000 and if its the same engine it is not an interference engine. My timing belt broke with the engine on and did not suffer any damage. You might want to check the Orielly auto parts store online for the timing belt replacement for your engine. The site will tell you if its a interference engine.
