Ticking noise

2001, 50,000 miles. On start up, my engine makes a very noticeable ticking/tapping noise. It goes away after about 30 seconds and the truck has always run great.
The shop said that if I'd ever had anything but 5/20 oil in it, it would cause damage to the valve train. I bought the car used and have always put 5/20 in it. Shop says there's a TSB on this, but darned if I can find it. Anyone ever heard of this? There's 15K miles left on my warranty. Any help appreciated!

There has been much debate on oil selection for the Escape. I know that Ford recommends the 5w20, but they only do it to get a better fuel economy rating. The wear characteristics for 5w20 oil are not very good. I have been running 5w30 and 0w30 (winter) synthetic oil in my 2001 escape for over 100k with no problems. The engine is as quiet as the day I bought it.

Complain some more about the engine noise that isn't normal, the dealers usually love warranty work. It is no skin off their backs.

Try using a motocraft oil filter. My mom had the same problem & mechanic told her her to use that filter. Then problem went away.
