Hey, Im new to the forum, but so far it seem great. Im looking for a newr(02-03) P71. Id like black but dark gray or blue would work. Any info on fair pricing/mileage/condition to look for is also much apperciated. im on my second interceptor and so far i love em. Theres always more to learn. Id like to supe up the 99 that i have (ive already done a few things) raise th HP a little or a lot but without MAJOR investments or mechanics. Im going to sell it soon too. I nabbed it because it was REAL clean and in great shape but its white and i hate white cars. Plus id like to own a newer one. Iz

So you want a newer Crown Vic....well, it'll be a bit hard to find one that's not white because they are mainly a fleet car, and have become exclusively fleet for this year and those to come until they decide not to build the thing anymore.

An '03 with under 20,000kms on it will retail for 21-24. A good deal would be paying about 18 for one. That's well equipped aswell.

If you're thinking you'd like to fix up the current one and only want to get rid of because of the colour, why not just have it painted? Then you can have the color you want, and the whole car won't cost much when you compare the prices of just doing little things; it'll still run you a couple thousand bucks though.

The best way to get a little more oomph out of the car is to upgrade the air intake and the exhaust system. That's not very expensive, and is easily done. Depending on the emission laws where you are, you could also cut the catalytic converter off. That'll help with power and save a good 2-3 hundred pounds.

Just a few suggestions. If you want more details, post back and i'll get back to you.

Yes! The catalytic converter only cleans the exhaust fumes as they exit the motor, basically it 'hinders' your cars performance because it's interferring with the flow of exhaust.

If you cut it off, the exhaust has less obstructions and therefore flows better which makes your car run smoother with a little more power. I noticed a bit of a differences when i cut mine off!

You can follow the suggestions of what i told Izy. Easy inexpensive ways to add performance to your car. If you'd like more power than what these will do for you, post back and i'll give a few others.

im gonna do that, its got glass packs on now, i wanna put straight pipes on , and have the outlets kinda like the mauroder or mustang, coming out the length ot the bumper, just cuz i love loud cars. and no one expects a loud crown vic. any other hellp on gettin a little more power would be great. i know the basic but am almost clueless on these newer cars and what will mess with the 2 million sensors they got on em.
thanks

Just so you know, cutting off the catalytic converter is an illegal thing, where you can be fined based on the emissions laws in place depending on which state or province you live in. My car is over 20 years old, so i'm completely safe from this, but should i sell it the new owner will have to have a new one put one in order to pass a safety inspection for the insurance company.

Just so you are aware of the legal consequences, with straight exhaust. The loud sound can be achieved with the right kind of muffler aswell....a high flow system like a Cat Back system will give you a great sound AND add performance.

As far as the electrical stuff, you can tune the ECU (car's computer) to get more performance out of the motor, in other words tune the governor to let the engine put out more power. You can also tune the transmission this way by adjusting the shift points so the car will rev higher to give you more top end power and 'longer legs'.

There's the basics that i listed which are new intake and exhaust, and if you don't mind spending a bit more money, you can look at a supercharger. 9psi would be sufficient for the crown vics that have the 4.6L V8....if you go that far, make sure you buy an intercooler, and get a performance shop's opinion on the doing that kind of thing to the car, as you may need to change the internals (crank shaft, cam shaft, rockers, etc.) so the motor doesn't blow itself apart under the pressure.

A turbocharger would work aswell, but again the internals of the car can dictate that.

You can have new headers put on the car aswell, and get the ports polished to allow more flow come through.

That's pretty much the just of what i can suggest without going into detail about re-doing the whole car. A budget conscious thought, if you decide you'd like to venture out and do ALL of the above suggestions, you may be better off just buying a Marauder. It'll be another 5 grand, but will give you similar performance without having to install all new brakes and suspension on the car.

Hope i've given you some things to ponder on, again any questions please feel free to post back!
