Gas Guage defect

I have a 2001 chevy silverado 47,000 miles on it and now my gas guage is going nuts; i will have a half tank of gas then all of a sudden it jumps down to empty! This mostly happens when I am in park. I have looked around and read up on alot of other people having this same problem, mostly dateing back to the 1999 model up till 2001, people with suburbans and tahoes have also been having this problem. This is rediculous! To get this problem fixed would cost around $400 after all is said and done with labbor. Now is this fair for us "proud" owners of GM products. Why should we have to pay for crap like this when its obvious that it was wither set up to break on us, or someone cut a corner somwheres on our products quality. Somthing needs to be done about this issue. If it takes all of us to give them our thoughs on this and protest to their product if necessary then so be it. We should not stand by and be taken advantage of like this. Oh and another issue to look for, check you emergancy break line in the rear wheel well, look at the wear that has been caused by the steel bar suspending it from the frame; I am sure you will notice some chaifing which has probly worn down to the interior of the cable. Thats another UHOOOHHH. I exspect better from this company!

my brother has the same prob. and he took it to the chevy dealer and they told him that he needed to replace the fuel pump because the sensor for the gauge went out and you cant just buy the sensor.
