What scoop are you talking about? Did someone put a plastic hood scoop on your car before you had it, or are you talking about a stock scoop? If its stock, you can modify it with much work to be functional. If it is a stick-on, alot more work(a ton) is required to make it functional. If it is the stick on, you would need to cut a hole in your hood, get some fiberglass matting and resin, and shape it into your hood. Obviously, this is an extensive body mod and you probably wouldnt want to take the job on. If it is stock on the other hand, you can just drill out the fake honey-comb holes(VERY CAREFULLY!!) and run ducting to your air intake. This would require a custom air box able to snugly fit an air filter. So in the end, it would be neat, but not neat enough to actually do it. Hope this helps.

well, id suggest gettin a shaker hood scoop (mach1)... ud prolly have to get a new hood (look on ebay for a hood off a mach1, they get parted out all the time one ebay and u could get one for pretty cheap) then its pretty easy... modifying the one uve got would be really hard and if ur not pretty skilled could end up costin a lot more.

The honeycombs are for looks. Now the question is do you want the scoops for extra air to pass over the engine to help with cooling or for ram air. If you are going with the ram air here's some words of advice. Ram air is expensive for the benefits. You will not see any gains in power until you reach 150+ mph. The only exception is tunnel ram air, which is very expensive. As for cooling, the amount of air entering the engine compartment will be minimal and not much help. If this is just a question of looks, then you can buy an aftermarket hood with a high rise cowl and no fake scoops.

I have to say a ram air hood is great for cooling down your engine. If you do not believe me when you put one it remember where your temp. gauge normally ran and see where it is with a ram air hood.

please remember that the engine must stay within 180 - 210 degrees for it to operate normally. Adding a ram air scoop for nothing but cooling the engine compartment causes the engine to stay under the 180 mark for longer. that causes the thermostat to stay closed longer and in the winter that is a bad idea.

you could take the side scoops off, but if its an older car, your paint might not match with the paint underneath. it would be a slightly darker and richer color. especially if your paint is slightly faded or oxidized.

195 for a comp controlled car. I've given this some thought too, thunderbird muscle, 'cause we all know how Ford EFI engines like a cold intake manifold, I've been considering putting on a 428 CJ style scoop right over my manifold to cool it a bit...

I was just saying it cooled it down. I didn't say put it on just to cool it. I put mine on because I liked the way it looked!
