is a 850cfm eldelbrock carb to bigh for a 305? my brothers trans am has one on it, the motor has been rebuilt and has only 200 miles on it and it still floods out. this carb was on it when he bought the car. now i bought him a 600cfm holley to go on it. will that be sufficiant for the 305?

850 is way too big for a 305.
600 should be fine 650 would be max I think.

yeah i have screwed with the 850 for days trying to set it so the car wouldnt run rich. my buddy who races cars had a 600. and he let me have it for 20 bucks. it needed cleaned up, so i had a bucket of the dip that you leave it in over night that cleans everything out, and its like brand new now. im going to put it on there for him tomarrow.

A guy from the local camaro club has a 69 camaro with a freshly built 350 and he has a 750 carb on it and its running way too rich so i think he stepped it down to a 650

well when we took the 5.0 apart to rebuilt it the pistons were black, from too much gas.which i had the block bored 30 over. and had some silvolite hyperutectic forged pistons put in it, needed a new crank too, the old one was warped, the motor is close to being broke in now but needed a smaller 4 barrel. but i do believe that the 600 will cure his flooding problems. and the 650 for the dude with the 69 that should help him too.

the stock q-jet is puts out about 600-650, modded out, bout 700ish. so anything in that range should work... 750 would be the max id say. it all really depends on how you adjust the mixture and all else.
