I need to know what year is better for a Mach 1 because I like a 69 and other people i ask say that a 70 is better and because I want one for when i turn 16
So if you could tell me which one is a nicer car in your opinion like:
which 1 is faster and which has more horsepower and stuff like that
and which 1 is an overall nicer car
Thanx a lot

Hey it's great to see young people interested in older cars, especially mustangs. In my opinion for speed and handling go with a 71-73 coupe. The coupes were 300 lbs lighter than fastbacks and with a beefed up clevland or windsor engine these cars scream. If you are goin for looks, then the 69 mach is a clear winner. Let us know what you decide to get.

Thats my car, I'm 19 now, bought it when I was 17. $5500, its a '69 coupe. In that picture, I had just redone the front suspension, and the new springs aren't broken in, so the stance looks a big funky.
Fastbacks look a bit better(not too much better IMHO), and '69 coupes are the lightest out of the '69-70 cars. I think they have a couple hundred pounds weight savings on the fastbacks, and a couple hundred on the 70s. As for whats fastest.. I don't think it matters now. Any car you find won't have an original unrebuilt engine(at least not in a teenager's budget). Mine came with a 351c, obviously not original since 351c's first year was '70. You could find a mustang with a beat down inline 6 that couldn't run the 1/4 in under 20 seconds, and you could also find one with a 700hp 500+ci big block ford under the hood that gets there in less than 10 seconds.
I'm rebuilding the motor now, shooting for around 600hp(motor should be capable of high 700s, but the trans and block probably wont put up with that...). Going to be twin turbocharged, if anyone is wondering. I'm working 7 days a week/7-10hrs a day right now, so I don't have much time to work on it. I'm hoping to get it done before I go back to college(28th of august), but thats not likely. I personally like the '69s better than '70s, I like the 4 headlights a lot better than the '70s 'notches'. If I were to buy another classic 'stang, I'd go with a '69 coupe with a good body and non rusted frame rails, with a beat down 302 with a FMX or otherwise crappy trans. If you know what to look for, you could find one for less than what I paid(probably pick one up for $3-4k, coupes are cheap). Then I'd get a nice 351c or 351w core, rebuild it, and swap. If it came with a smallblock ford, any other smallblock ford(not a 4.6.. that would be a huge project, I know of someone putting a 4.6 into his '67... lots of work) will swap in using the same mounts and trans. Get a nice toploader or c4 auto(or ideally, T-56 6 speed), and it should already have a 9" if it came with a v8. Build the motor for whatever power you like, a 351c or 351w can get you anywhere from 250hp to 800hp, depending on if you know your shit. Believe me, you don't yet.
I rebuilt my 351c right when I bought the car, and it was garbage. Not that I did anything wrong, I just didn't know anything about the motor, and it ended up being not what I wanted. It probably put down 250-300hp at the crank, so probably 220-250hp at the wheels, which is decent for a ~3100lb car, but by no means dominating. It could probably keep up with a new Mustang GT. I wasn't happy, so for the past 2 years I've been researching and assembling parts, working on my fabrication skills, etc, and just a few months ago started to put it all together.
The motor is out and getting an overhaul(this time with a fully prepared crank, proper high silicon forged pistons, prepared rods, main girdle, windage tray.. the works). I'm also going with fuel injection and a pair of turbochargers capable of 15+psi. I figure 6-8psi will be plenty for me(in the neighborhood of 550-600hp at the crank), but if I ever grow tired of a high 10 second car, I could always pull the trans and rebuild it again for more power(or put in a manual) and turn the boost up to 15 psi and run 9s(15psi, cold water in the air-water intercooler, race gas, and alcohol injection should net high 700s-low 800s at the crank).
If I were you, I wouldn't get a mach1. I doubt you have the wallet to make it a show car. If you just want the look of a mach 1, get a fastback of whatever year mach you think looks better, get a the stripe kit(I know where you can get it, lemme know if you want it), and make it into a mach1 clone. Plus the cost of a '69/70 mach 1(even a crappy one) is going to be $10k+. No one but a judge at a show will know the difference, and even if someone does, who cares. I know that no '69 ever came with a 351c, turbochargers, or any of the stuff I had on my car, thats what makes it cool. I like it, thats all that matters. If you like how mach 1's look, just do it.
As for what year you should get, it doesn't really matter. I like any 64 1/2 - 73 body style. They all look nice in their own ways, and I've seen all years and body styles done up VERY nice. I was never a big fan of the 71-73 stangs until I saw this one :

Thats a '72 coupe with a 351c. A very nice '72 with a very nice 351c. It produces in the neighborhood of 475hp at the crank.
Do whatever YOU want. Everyone tells me that they love the color of the paint on my car and they love the mag 500 rims, but I'm gettin rid of both of them. They tell me I'm crazy, but seriously, who gives a shit what they say. I know it'll look 10 times better with the rims I want and the paint I want. I've seen more classic mustangs than all of the people who've laid eyes on my car combined, and I know exactly what I like. They may say I'm an idiot now, but when its all together, I'm sure they'll be taking that back. And if not, screw 'em.
Sorry for rambling... Good to see more young classic american lovers out there(esp. with the good taste to get a 'stang!!)

I love it when others are building a clevland up. I think it's great to hear that more and more people are going back to the clevland engine.
