Please don't put side pipes on a beautiful car like that. I have seen them and it looks terrible. But that is only my personal opinion. Very FEW cars can get away with side pipes. As far as legal... anything goes on a 66... I'm in california and we have the worst laws.. As long as it's not noise pollution (too loud), then it should be fine.
P.S. Don't do it!

Tnx for responding.
I wasnt really going to put them on unless i found some that really look good. I was just curious. Do you have any pictures of a car with them on, just so i can see for myself, i looked but couldnt find any. I think im going to do headers, flowmaster, out in front of the back tire. Any gripes with that? lol
tnx again

Haha.. No gripes with that. Infact I was going to recomend doing so. Or if you like that ground shaking effect I would go Duel 3 chamber Flow Masters, with an crossover pipe "H pipe" on 2.5 to 3 inch exhaust dumped under the car just before the rear axles. Or go with a 2 chamber if you decide with a Big Block (It'll breath nicer). I didn't have a choice on my 62 Nova. Seeing as there was no room under the car. Check out the pic.. 3 Inch pipe out the sides just before the rear tires (Very Loud when driving with windows down). Either way stick to it and dont give up on it.. It's the cars that sit around that rot... (I too have a daily driver for gas).

Ok, Here is a perfect example of what not to do with a 1970 Chevelle. I know it's not a 66 but Please, Please do not put Side Pipes on your car.
This guy thinks his 70 Chevelle was the car used in Starsky & Hutch!
I want to hit people like this... Plus don't you think there's a reason you can't find any pictures on the net of a 66 with side pipes? It's cause no one does it!
(Again, only my personal opinion)

Yea, they dont look that great, id rather just see the 3" pipe sticking out :)

What is the purpose of the crossover H pipe things? I know what they are. Do they like make the exhaust flow more even or something? What would be the order of the stuff? Headers, connector to H pipe, h pipe, connecter to flowmaster, flowmaster, pipe out the side?
I was just thinking of making each head have its own pipe...like headers, flowmaster, out the side lol. what is the advantage of crossovers?

Yep you got it right, Headers, then run the pipes close to each other and connect forming an H. After that of course the mufflers.. As far as advantage.. you pretty much got it right. The exhaust will flow evenly throughout the system and it will be a much more even tone exiting from the back as opposed to an uneven sound. (hard to explain the sound). But as far as performance I don't believe you will notice anything significant, it's just overall a better sound and maybe only a few dollars more.
But ya.. no on the side pipes, only a few rare Vettes and older Cobras really get away with it.

I noticed on that picture you sent me of your nova that you have a chevelle with a big hood scoop. It looks like you might race it? I was just curious what kinda motor you have in your malibu and nova? What does it run in the 1/4? What gears, tranny? I wanna have mine a street car/ocassional racer, just getting ideas.
Tnx

65 SS Chevelle with 468 BB 3:73 gears, T400 Tranny, Big Stall, High compression, race gas only, Roll cage, full roller engine (not a daily driver that runs in the low 11's on Mini Tubed Street Tires). 62 Pro Street Nova, 460 BB mildly built (for now), Full Tub on 29-18.5-15 MT Sportsman Pro's, Roll cage, T400 tranny, 4:10 gears, Big stall, line lock, pump gas, mid/high 11's depending on its mood. Both cars haven't been ran in a while now because the closest tracks are at least an hour away and I will not drive them there and dont have a trailer.. So unfortunatly they are my Garage Queens... Neither car has been on a dyno.... I just kinda threw the Nova's engine together with what I could come up with a while back so it's not as built as I would like.

I beleive you have too many freaking cars!! They all look awesome. All i want is my one to run and look nice lol, for now anyway :) And ill gladly take your novas 460 if you dont like it :grinyes: lol the only thing i dont like is the automatic trannys!!!! but i know they are faster for racing , but id still rather have it be stick, more fun for the street. you should get your nova to run 9's or so :) what in the world do you use the linelocks for lol, i dont think u need them to do burnouts lol. Do you use them to rev the engine a little b4 you take off on the 1/4 mile or is it a trans brake that lets u rev it before you take off? I dont really know what transbrakes do. i think it runs the torque converter backwards so the fluid grabbs quicker or whatever when you take off, so you dont loose that hp that you normally loose with a automatic?? but does that have anything to do with people reving it to 5 grand or whatever b4 they take off?

Line lock is mainly used to heat up the tires in the burn out pit.. It's so your rear brakes aren't on when you power brake.. No biggy but definatly saves brake life. As far as a trans brake you got it right. It basically stalls up the torgue converter and when you release it it basically acts as if your popping the clutch on a manual transmission. I agree with you on the manual transmissions... I had a 68ss Camaro with an M22 Rosk Crusher Tranny and it was super fun. But if you want consistant times at the track your not gonna get em with a manual. Plus with a high performance Center Force clutch your left foot gets tired. I had a big block in that Camero and it was a bitch. Getting late.. Night..
