A week or two ago I noticed that my engine had started squeeking when i started, and I just kinda shrugged it offf to being a glazzed over belt because its been hitting over 110 around here. But lately its gotten louder and constantly squeels. Today I finally had time to take a look, but when i popped the hood I could tell it wasn't coming from the belts. I thought it was the tranny at first, then realized it was coming from the distributor cap. If I put my hand around the distributor it quieted it some, but it was still squeeling. I was planning on taking off the cap and having a look later today, but I was wondering if any of you knew what this was likely being caused by? Plz dont tell me I'll have to replace the whole distributor... hahaha...

Ok... I took off the distributor cap... and said WOW! I haven't done this in a while... cuz the last distributor cap i took off was on a 63 ford pickup... I've never looked at one of the newer distributors. But anyway... the bottom of the cap has metal flakes and powder in it... and it smells kinda like burnt plastic/baked oil. I'm not sure what to look for on these, cuz i'm used to the simple cap, rotor and points thing... so HELP plz?!

metal flakes may have gotten into the race, take it appart and clean it real well. Probably a good time to replace cap and rotor also.

90 DX a D15 i think...
I was lookin around on the net... and it said that the squeel meant that the bearings had failed.... do any of you know if they are replaceable instead of replacing the entire distributor?

just get a new one...lol
its a bitch to take apart... i know cuz i tryed and said fuck it.
you need a press and if you do get them gear looking things off i think they need to be the way they were when you took them out or it will fuck up something. and you need to get them gear looking things off so you car get the bearing in the middle of the shaft. save your self the pain in the ass and get a new one if you have the money if not... good luck. your car still runs right? it i were you i would go to a junk yard and pick up a distributer (that hopfuly works). if it works then mess with yours and see if you can get it appart and fix it... :2cents:
