sorry if this is a repost but it kept tellin me the server was busy when i tried a search....but anyway apologies aside i am about to replace my fuel filter since i have just replace my transmition pan filter and oil filter of course but in my haynes manual it just for some reason has a section for carberated fuel filter replacement now i do have a 91 305 tbi would it be the same procedure if not could someone give me a quick run through the process....because right before that section it says when doin any work on a fuel injected system u have to relieve the pressure since fuel injection systems are pressurized but it dosent say how to do this?? thanks

i dont think you need to do all that.... ive replaced many fuel filters and i just unscrewed or unclamped them and put the new ones in

You could just unscrew the gas cap and let some pressure out but the best way is to remove the fuel pump fuse and turn the engine over. It might chug a bit but will not run.

The fuse on my TPI car was just behind the drivers side headlights but it was kind of hard to find.

do what dober said, but no matter what you'll probly get soaked in gas. the filter is on the driver side frame rail towards the rear of the car

There is but when I pulled mine it just ran like shit. It only disabled some of the injectors. There is an actual fuse in the engine bay all by itself that kills the whole system. I can take a pic if you need it but im not sure if TBI would be setup the same as TPI.

as far as I know, the fuel pump fuse for the tbi is on the right fender side of the engine compartment by the battery.

fuel pump fuse/ecm fuse is in the engine compartment, pass side, right in front of the coolant reservoir. it looks like a connector going to nothing, screwed into the side by fender (20A fuse). just pop that out and fuel pump is off. you could also just disconnect the fuel pump itself since youre underneath to change filter, but thats harder to get at. relieving fuel pressure is done by opening gas cap and allowing it to make the "hiss". then crank the engine for about 15 sec, if it doesnt turn over, and you are depressureized. make sure you use 2 wrenches because it is the flare connection which can mess things up if you just use one. o and if you dont know already, fuel filter is on driver floor, right next to the rear wheel well.

once new filter in, pop the fuse back in, make sure gas cap on, and crank it till it starts. might take a little bit to get it going, but it will start once fuel is at the tbi.

good luck

I just got a standard replacement filter. Be careful not to twist the lines when removing it!
