so i go into walmart to pick up the testors decal maker, it's cheaper there than any of the hobby stores. so i go to check out and pay for it and the old lady askes for my ID. i ask why, and she says that this product is a 'restricted' item and that i must be at least 18 years of age. well, i'm kinda short 6 months from being 18, so i leave pissed as hell. i mean what the hell, it's a decal maker!!! anyway, i finally got the decal maker at hobbylobby, who did not ask for my idea, i was not happy. so, SCREW YOU WALMART!!!

Strange thing, is any serious modeller over 18 won't buy this thing :D

I can't understand why they ask that, there is nothing more dangerous in this set than Pray paint (which is 13 and over I think)

i just can't...resist...the smell...ahhhh

anyway, i have the kit now, but i was wondering. this program just gives me a few decals that i can print off. if i want to add custom decals, i have to buy another cd for $10, seems like a scam to me. but couldn't i draw something up on paint and print it off on the decal paper?-or do i need that program to print it off in a certain manner that will allow them to be decals?

same thing happened to me at a wal-mart. i was in the self-checkout isle and a big yellow light went off when i scaned spray paint, and they would not let me buy it.

I've been IDed for paint before too, both at walmart and kmart. i guess they're concerned with kids huffing it.

I feel sorry for you, but then I'm glad you managed to get one elsewhere.
The problem isn't really because of Wal-Mart. About two generations ago, (your grandma's age), adults started becoming extremely irresponsible, blaming stores for selling anything harmful to children, instead of teaching their children what's right and what's wrong. Now, things have gone out of control, and even stores get sued for selling tobacco, liqueur and even paints!

You know what? In Japan, if a minor buys a can of beer from a vending machine (which is available everywhere) and gets caught by the police, it will be the kid who'll be scolded. Cause and consequence, as simple as that.

As for the decal paper, I found that the ink doesn't quite stay when soaked in water, because water dissolves ink around the edges. I haven't try this yet, but I think it'll be better trimming the decal first, then apply the fixing spray, so that the edges will also be protected.

if it was a law then why doesn't hobbylobby or hobbytown ID me?

thanks for the advice hirofkd! i have yet to try it out but i'll give it a test run later today on some white background paper. i think i could just print out custom decals off paint onto the decal paper, it's pretty much the same thing.

Beer in a vending machine? Some Asahi or Kirin dispensed in the convenience of a vending machine. Now that's cool.

Just like most of those ID laws, like with mature-rated video games, some card, some don't. Sure it's law, but I don't think people see it the same way as carding for cigarettes or alcohol.

Hobby Lobby Carded me... When my dad was standing right there, I didnt have Id at all. So my dad said he was buying it and the guy said sorry sir you and your son might be huffing the paint I can't sell it to you. I also was buying a Ford Mustang Saleen kit. After that my dad talked to the manager and we got the paint no charge. :grinyes:

yeah, off topic: in Buffalo, New York (where i used to live) you can't buy a pack of cigarettes if you're with a minor. lol, they'll card everyone you're with

Still off topic, but I got asked for my ID in New York when attempting to buy 400 cigarettes, I had No ID as we brit's don't have ID Cards so no cigarettes.
I was 35 years old at the time........ for Fcuk sake.

If you looojk around here in the US you see evidence of " paint abuse everywhere " , while i agrre huffing is a concern grafitti is another. Ever think about how much it costs to clean up after some irresponsible shit head paints his name or something all over someone elses or even public property?
Unfortunately those who are responsible pay the price along with irresponsible. Hell all the sprays here are locked up in Lowes and Home Depot and even if you are an adult you have to ask for access to them.
