1995 V8 - My engine dies soon after start

Hi to everybody and thanks for any advice you can give me.
I am the proud owner of a 1995 Ford Thunderbird LX V8 and a few days ago it started giving me trouble. When I start the car the RPM gauge stays very low, jumps a few times and often the engine dies. The battery gauge seems to be unsteady, too. If I press the gas pedal I can overcome the problem, but sometimes it does the same after driving for a while, when I come to a stop, and that can be really annoying, as you can imagine...
Since it was time for an oil change, I also cleaned the fuel injectors, but it didn`t seem to solve the problem.
Any idea on what I should try?
Thanks

exact same thing happened to me w/ a '96 v8 and it was the idle air control (IAC) sticking closed.

I removed the IAC from the engine, sprayed carb cleaner in it, and cleaned out the valve with a toothbrush to get the "soot" out.

Reinstalled, started right up and ran great. haven't had any problems for over 3 years now.

woah woah woah. read the warnings on the IAC valve. the specifically say NOT to use any sort of cleaner on them. if your IAC has this label, you must get a new IAC valve. simply put.

Thanks, everybody, you`ve been all very helpful.
It was the IAC and I had to get a new one. Now the car is running great!
