Beside the shifter there should be a small opening that is covered. Pull the cover off this opening and insert a straight blade screwdriver. This should release the shifter to allow you to shift the tranny.

On mine..93..(Cdn. car)the little cover is metal???..yes metal..AAAaand..LOL..when I went to "pry" it...(in poor light)..ROFL..I was having trouble "prying it"..it SEEMED that the thing wasn't prying..HUNH???..it "seemed" to be springing back...WTF?????.Mine is attached to a spring..and it SLIDES backwards horizontally with easy finger tip pressure. The first time this happenend in -30 weather I was told it was the trans.Oh well..200,000 something on it..SOOoo I left the car where it was and figgerred..I'd take a look at it.I guessed it COULD be a solenoid..THEN it was ok??..I KNEW one day I'd have to fix it.One day..I was ganderring through the owners manual in the glove box..THERE IT WAS!.DUH!!!!! No problem..just got out my pointed hat and sat in the corner for awhile...
