Stock Radio

I own a 97 Grand AM SE Quad 4 and I have a radio problem. The display on the radio almost never works, either it will show a whold jumble of letters or numbers and different symbols and stuff, or the backlight won't work and I can't read it. A friend of mine told me that his dad owned a Grand AM and took it to a dealership and they replaced the radio for free. Does anyone know if they still or ever have done this and since my radio only has a tape player if they could upgrade it to the CD player. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

if its under warranty it gets replaced for free, i havent heard of any recalls on radios though, if there is a recall id like to know cuz my stock radio sux ass.....any stock radio should fit as well tape /cd they make quite a few different styles, but if you have to buy it....200$ easy, id just go and buy a sony or something and have it installed or do it your self if ya like that....piece
