98 ZR2 start problem, fuel odor

I have a 98 ZR2 blazer. About a month ago I started having problems starting. Sometimes it starts fine and other times it takes 3 tries. I usually have to give it gas for it to catch. The charging systems is good. New alternator and recient battery(Optima Yellow Top). More reciently I have noticed a fuel odor coming from the left side of the engine compartment. I have heard that there is a problem with the fuel getting into the intake mainfold causing big problems. Any help would be appreciated.
