NEW Tail Light Idea

I dont know about you but I'm kind of tired of the same old tail lights available now. They have been the same style for soooo long and they weren't that great to begin with. You know, the red ball ones with either cf or black or chrome. Some of these look god awfull. Why dont they come out with some new designs like those on the G35 coupe or Kia Spectra. They look a thousand times better. It looks like they have a whole chrome piece under a red outer piece, so they're all red or they are all red with a small chrome part. Anyway, would you guys like to see some tails like this? Maybe we could email some companies or something. Tell me what you think.

Oh, I forgot. If someone could maybe photoshop the 1st pic's tails (or some other ones like it) onto the eclipse that would be really cool. (not the shape of the 1st ones, just the look, ya know)

I agree, but the initial fixed costs would be far greater for something like this. I think some straight custom work woul be in order...a guy did this stuff on his 1996 maxima..he placed high intensity leds on both lights, and they ended up looking like the infinity ones.,...very sweet.

No, I was thinking we could email companies like TYC and APC etc, and tell them we'd be interested in a different style of product, ya know. And if they got enough of a response, they might just feel there was a market for this style (i dont know how they're still making $ anyway with their outdated styles). Some of this style lights are already being made for other cars, but even they are hard to find. But to my knowledge nothing like these are being made for DSMs. Maybe we could just persuade them to make some for our cars. Let me know.

Here are some more pics of what I'm talking about. Sorry if I over did it.

dude, the ones for the accord above are cool as hell. they look almost stock, but diferent in a subtle way, like its a special edition or something. TYC does make lights for our car but they suck methinks. it would be tight if they could make them in red crystal...

here it is, it took a little time, Why cant i put on the normal size picture like everyone else???

Hey, nice work scottsee. Dual exhaust and everything. So tiny though.
So what about letting the companies know. Would you guys just want to email them or what?
I'm tired and goin to bed, but when I get up I'm gonna email them and see what they say.

That would be an assload of fab time for a strictly visual mod.

But it looks real nice!!

It wouldn't be a lot of fab work at all if you used the outside lines of the current taillights and just added two pieces to the center panel to create the curving shape. Seems like it could look nice that way too.

No no, guys im not talking about molding tails in. I was just complementing scottsee on his work. Although the g35's lights do look really good on the eclipse. I was just talking about using that same style (candy red or whatever) that a lot of cars are using now in a new tail light for our cars since there hasn't been anything new or great in designs for awhile. APC, TYC, whatever, just keep making the same sh*t for DSMs and I just thought they could use a new design and get away from outdated altezzaz. This is what I was thinking they could come out with for our cars. I dont do photoshop or anything, so its really rough. But you can kinda get the basic idea. I can give someone the different pics I used if you want to do a better job.

i like the stock 2G tail lights...the shape i mean. i wouldnt want to do a conversion though, instead i dig what nayr747 is saying...same shape but red crystalline, or even red halo rings.

Well when this is what they think is cool, you know they need help.

why dot you just put 4" truck led into the tail light? you will get the g35 look. when the lights are on and it will look mean with 2 led lights on each side of the eclipse..

thats nice scottsee. good job. i wish they can sell those already.

I'd like to take the BMW halo rings they sell separatly on ebay, put them in a red tint, cut up a stock eclipse tail light, and put three of them where the otherwise regular aftermarket "circles" would be...i could do all the setting up, but i hate working with electricals and swouldnt know how to connect the thing etc, plus amp ratings etc are an issue...dont wanna blow a fuse. how about clusters og high intensity red led lights per light?

ashah000

what is a 4" truck LED?

Next time you see a semi, look at the taillights they are a bunch of leds going in a circle.

But you wouldn't get the see-through red look. That's the whole point. Actually what would be really nice is the see-through look with some nice leds like you guys are talking about in there. Wait, that's exactly what's in the G35's. If you guys haven't seen these lights in person you're missing out. Whenever I see a g35 coupse go by at dusk I almost fall over. Good lord!
Anyhoo, I did a bit of research and found another option. It's not as good as TYC or whatever making a professional design, but it seems to look good on other cars. If you do a search on google you can find a lot of other pages about it.

http://www.everythingcelica.com/ubbthreads/thread.f_57001_0_collapsed_2__1.html

This is what I was thinking: Buy some chrome/red tails off ebay or whatever then heat them and take the cover off, put some leds or holo rings in there, then put it back together and do the testors. It seems like it would look almost exactly like the G35's. What do you guys think?

its obvious these tail lights wouldnt work, without an unbelivable amount of fabrication. but it looks cool.

07-28-2004, 04:15 PM
damn that sucks. imma print out the picture and give it to my cuzin and see what he can do. he made some lights for a 99 civic and they looked bad ass. maybe he can do somethin similar with these, i dont think they would be perfect but will c. if he's down for it ill post pics of the project.

Nay747 tahts what im saying man!! chop some aftermarket lights...thow in some truck 4" or halos....the only thing im concernred about is the wiring compatibility with the stock stuff...

george536
07-29-2004, 01:09 AM
u can always mess with the wiring to make it compatible juss watch wat your doin or you'll blow everyfuse in yo car.

Nayr747
07-29-2004, 02:44 AM
The LEDs use hardly any power though. I read how to wire up leds. I actually made a cigarette pack that lit up every time you tilted it. You can just calculate the current it needs and use resistors or whatever and something about ohms... it was a while ago. They're really cheap too if you buy em seperately. I have this site that sells them for almost no markup.
Whenever I overcome my lazyness, I'll see what some companies say about the design.

By the way Shpyder, ur car looks nice. I always thought the turbo spoiler would look good on the spyder.

07-29-2004, 04:31 AM
Nayr747: dude, if I had the techincal know-how (electronics, amp rating etc) I would go ahead and just make some. Cutting up the stockers and replacing the new lights shouldnt be a problem for me, but getting stuff wired is. i HATE wires.

(PS thanks, I havent seen any other spyders with the turbo wing either, but i think it looks nice too...not too huge just right).
