should I change the tranny fluid?

My 97 has about 91300 miles on it. The tranny fluid looks ok, but I am coming up to the 100k mark. Should I get the tranny fluid changed? Or say no, because of many of the horror stories I have read. I don't knopw if the tranny was serviced before I got the car. It was a fleet vehicle so I doubt it.

well you should change out your filters, cause if they get clogged your shift selenoids could get stuck, it would be a good idea but go to a transmission place they can clean it out and everything its not that expensive.

Actually fleet and rental cars tend to get MORE of the routine type maintenance in my experience.

As to your actualy question, I dunno. My shift solenoids crapped out not too far past 100k, so I sort of had to change it as they dignosed the trouble. I had no other real issues till my speed sensor went out (or worse that it was anyway) at about 180,000 miles, so it worked out OK for me at any rate.

Who the heck had Auroras as fleet vehicles anyway?

It was some company in Alabama. Thats where I bought her. So, if I am reading your responses correctly, you all vote for the tranny fluid change?

Changed mine at 65K. Am at 70K now with no adverse affects but also no improved affects. It was dirty though so glad I did it. Did not get the tranny flush.... too many bad stories about the flush.

OK Gang;

Adter hearing all the technical stuff from the dealer, lube shops, all sorts of mechanics and trans shops.

Change the fluid. The book calls for 30,000 miles to change the fluid, in normal driving like Montana, Utah, North Dakota.:naughty:
In California,Ohio, Jersey,New York, where you have to drive for a living the fluid should be changed every 15,000 to 20,000 miles.:sly:

Drop the pan and change the filters.:nono:Never do those high pressure flushes, they are tough on the seals. You want to keep the fluid clean.

I got 130,000 miles out of my tranny before the speed sensor died.:cwm27:

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and change only the oil. I too have a '95 (135k). I took it in when I rec'd an SES prompt. They did an injector cleaning of sorts and the dealer asked me if I wanted the tranny fluid changed too. He said it looked dirty. I suspect he did not even look but wanted to bump up my visit dollars as the injector cleaning was only $150.00. The tranny fluid change was $179.00. My tranny was running perfect, but like an idiot I said,"sure go ahead".

Once they changed that fluid all hell broke loose with the tranny. I am now $2Gs in the whole and the tranny is still not running right. When asked them what could have happened the serv mgr. said that a tranny with mileage like that should be left alone. NOW he tells me. I am in litigation trying to resolve this. DO NOT DO IT!
