name of engine?

Hey guys i have a 96 ford escort and i need a new engine. I just need a basic one and i need to know the engine code so it will make it easier to find. also, do you guys know where i can find one in the toronto area? thanks.

Looks like two engine options for that year of Escort;

SOHC (4-116, 1.9L, VIN J)
DOHC (4-109, 1.8L, VIN 8)

Go to http://car-part.com/ and do a search for an engine in your area

I'd say make it a hybrid and go for the 2.0L SPI SOHC.

2.0 definately, its more powerful! But i've only driven 2.0s, so dont take my word that it'll definately be faster......

hehe...yeah, cuz my car met the jumyard last week dumbass. That's right, some dumbass tried to race while I was in a hurry to the hospital. He blew out his front passenger side tire, guess what he did, took out my rear end causing me to go flying into oncoming traffic. It's dumb fucks like you that cause shit like this, 'cause you think your 10 year old POS is hot shit. Yeah, I made it to the hospital, just not through the doors or to the area I planned on.
