Well someone just broke a window in my car last night, and stole my Pioneer DEH-P6600 headunit, along with all my CDs. I wonder, can the police help me, or what would be the next step?

where are you from? I'm not being sarcastic. In my area, if a stereo is stolen it's as good as gone. My suggestion for the next step, start over. Good luck

I live in Northern VA in an upscale neighborhood. I filed a police report, but they said I am probably on my own, since the window is too small for insurance and the CD Player is gone forever. This really blows, I worked at my crappy job for two weeks just for that cd player and my cd collection. My dad will probably pay for a new window, but i'll have to buy a new cd player. Any tips on how not to get it stolen?

Give me the details. Did they take it along with the face? What I do is take the face off every single time, I don't show off what I got either. The only people that know what I got is my friends. Just think about it a little, there's no point in taking a stereo without the face, can't really sell it or use it at all for that matter unless somebody was specifically looking for that particular one. I have plenty of experience with stolen stereos, not firsthand but I've had plenty of people try to sell them to me, trade, or asked if I was looking for one. I know how they work, some of them are friends, most are strangers. Too much of a risk going through the trouble of stealing a faceless stereo if it can't be sold, know what I mean?
Alarms work sometimes, taking the face off, keeping it in a well lit area sometimes helps, Insurance is something that I wouldn't recommend unless you have the extra money. Otherwise, a little common sense, don't show it off to the wrong crowd of people. Hope that helps.

I took off the face, but I did leave it unlocked in the dash. They prob broke into my car because its an older car and they knew it was easy to break into, they took everything related to the stereo including remote and manual.

if you have a system keep it on the low when going to park and park in a well lighted area remove the face and when putting in a system try to bolt things down box amps ect.... and get a club or something make the car look hard to get into and not worth the bad guys time what kind of car was it???

oo here are some rules to keep your stuff safe
#1 never bump music near where you park/live
#2 always take off your faceplate if possible
#3 make sure u installed the correct bracket and secure it so there is no way for them to take your head unit out reguardless
#4 what i did.. tint.. i got level 4/5 for the front and 5/5 for the back
#5 alarm.. it helps.. get a loud horn for the alarm.. it'll scare the crap outta the robbers
well ok i think those rules are mostly just common sense, i installed my bracket so that you MUST take out everything around it just to get the head unit out.. or for my 860mp there is a lil clip that you can use to get the head unit out incase u want to work on it.. and if possible screw of tie down your subwoofer box.. because usually aside from the head unit the subwoofer gets jacket.. as for amps.. most amps can be screwed in.. then have another piece to cover the screws so theres no way they can jack it

I guess I'll follow those guidelines when I get my new headunit. Strangely my sub box and amp were not taken, even though they are not bolted down in my 1994 Geo Prizm.

Any advice for a good headunit about $200 (online price)? I dont feel like getting the same one again (Pioneer DEH-P6600). I was looking at the Panasonic CQC8100U. Which one do you think is better:
Pioneer DEH-P6600 (The Stolen One):

Or are there better ones for about that price range?

alot of times you can work out something with your insurance...just try talking to them alitlle bit, and if you still have the box/serial number, i would call all the car install places around and tell them to keep a look out for that deck (expecially if they didnt take the harness from the back....) good luck man

Well they did take the harness....but good thing they didnt rip the wires or it could have been worse. Any specific model I should look for a kenwood, kenwood guy?

anyone that can take the kenwood music keg That in my opinion is the best invention ever the head unit attaches to the music keg and acts like a cd changer but it can hold 100 times more song with cartrages that are linked to your computer when you need more songs if you get one look to be sure that headunit can take the music keg from kenwood but it needs to be a kenwood headunit and nothing else.. it wont work

Well I'm not really that interested in the music keg and all those features, just looking for a good headunit at a decent price, thanks.

How about a Alpine or Pioneer...a CDA-9827 is perfect for any mid/low grade system. I have that and I love it. If you want more features people tend to like Pioneers more. People wont steal a Sony though...come to think of it.

alpine all the way. after i got my JVC stolen i got an alpine cda-9827 and love it. i'm not big on goin all out for music but this one is great. as far as your stuff getting stolen, the reason your subs are there still is because they probably just grabbed what the could and ran, plus they may have been in the trunk. just take the face off and use common sense. theft is always a risk you run when you put aftermarket stuff in your car.

A friend of mine got his entire system stolen out of his car. The funny part: it was in the middle of the day in a crowded parking lot at his work (he was working at a Home Depot at the time) when it happened and apparently, no one saw anything.
It can happen anywhere at any time. Make sure no one around where you park knows what you have and take out the face plate whenever you park.

i'm sure someone saw something.
i'm reading a book right now and it says that with a lot of people around one incident the likelihood of someone reporting something is not that great. i'm sure almost everyone around his car saw something, but those people figured that someone else would say something. and that idea just went around in a circle so no one said anything.

Bottom Line Is Cops Have Plenty Of Other Things To Keep Them Too Busy To Worry About A Car Stereo And Such. Think About It, How Many People Haven't Had Something "small" Like That Stolen With No Luck In Getting It Back.

Well I don't think I'd concider a full audio system something "small." If my system was stolen, I'd be out over $1000.

08-07-2004, 10:42 AM
whats wrong with Kenwood?? I THINK ALL THAT IS JUST A MATTER OF PREFERENCE AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH CERTAIN BRANDS.
WHEN I SAY SMALL, I MEAN THAT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PUT A STEREO SYSTEM ON THE TOP OF THE LIST WHEN THEY HAVE OTHER STUFF TO TAKE CARE OF. KIDNAPPING, MURDER, RAPE, ASSAULT SO ON AND SO FORTH. WHAT'S GOING TO HAVE PRIORITY?

back to the stolen head unit subject i heard to never get a stereo installed at the same place you get your alarm or visa versa. i had a friend that had his unit stolen and the cops tole him it was probly the same people he got his alarm from because they probly have key and remotes so the doesnt go off becaues when they stole his unit he had his alarm ON

Wanna know what my friend did? Had and alarm installed. trus me, no one will F*** with this truck. even if he set it and leaves the doors unlocked. He did most of the wireing him self. Got 500v like 20columb capasitors and come transmoremers to step voltage up pretty high. has 2 plates on the back side of the door handle. when he sets the security system a blue LED blinks inside untill the capaitors are charged (a matter of seconds) and then a swich stops the capasitor form continung to dran the batery. if you grab the handle you will get the S*** shocked out of your hand. but lets say you do get the door open after a few trys of dischargind that capistor and it chargin back up...if the door is opened he has his security system turn on his head unit and plays a 50Hz tune from the 2 w7 13.5's and 2 JL 1000.1 amps. this is on top of the 120dB alarm horn on the outside and 2 120dB alarm horns he put under the seat. when he first got it all installed he set it and told me to go get something out of his truck...well first i grabbed the handle and was luckey enough to have pulled hard enough for the door to open while me thinking i got one hell of a static shock. after about 3 seconds of having the door open my ear drums where murdered by the 50Hz and alarm going off at the same time. what an experence that was...
