Frainds,

I have a 98 honda civic LX. Recently I noticed a strange behavior. When the engin is idling and if I switch on A/C, the compressor is engaging and immidiately released, then again engaging and releasing. That repeates for 3 or 4 times then it remains open for about 2 minutes and start engage/release cycle.

If I race the engin or run the car in normal speed, no problem. AC engages and cools normally. I checkedup with a gas station repair shop, he tells I have to replace the compressor. But I hope this is some thing minor, such as freeon pressure, or some adjustment. My car Idle is at 750RPM. Any help is highly appreciated.

sounds like you have a bad cycling switch. They are usually cheap and easy to replace. It's located on the low pressure side of the system; i don't know the exact location on that car.

check out your cycling switch if its good check the freon and oil level un less it is integral where the freon and oil are mixed together and operate together. More than likely the switch may be located next or on top of the drier. it looks like a semi-chrome probably aluminum cylinder with hoses coming out through the top and sometimes bottom.
