I have a 94 aspire and it quit on me, it wont go into any gear at all, i had no indication that the transmission was going bad, it just quit. it only has about 69k miles on it, and the fluid doesnt smell burnt at all and its like a light orangy reddish color . i was told that i needed a new transmission, but i was also told by someone else that its NOT the transmission that its probably the filter. could a dirty transmission filter prevent the car from going into gear? please help.

a bad or dirty tranny filter could cause the transmission to fail while changing gears, but not at 69k usualy that seems premature. you might want to do a filter change and tranny flush might do you good, if it works you save but if it doenst it was worth a try

if it doesnt go into gear at all then its prolly the tranny but if it goes into gear but nothin happens when u gas it then u prolly burnt your clutch

Does your car move at all ? Was it making all kinds of noise like it was falling a part before stopping? We've had ours for about two yr's. now and my husband has put trans. fuild in it 4 times. On my days off we just go riding around and sometimes we put 200-250 miles on it plus driving in the city through the wk. When it gets low on trans. fuild it gets where it won't shift hardly and makes all kinds of scraping noises. I mean it sounds really bad. I thought this last time the trans. was going to fall right out from under it. But as soon as he puts the fuild in and heads down the road it starts to sound normal again. This little car gets great mileage.

:grinyes: I hear you! I did the same with my '96 for 258,000 miles before it finally bit the dust. Not only would I have to constantly add fluid but occasionally have to adjust the freeplay on the clutch pedal when it started making all those noises. This was, I believe, an indication of the deteriorating state of the input shaft bearing which was allowing just enough travel to affect the clutch/flywheel interaction. I've also been told that the manual trannies on these things are definitely a "weak spot" but how can that jive with the 258,000 miles I got from mine, even though I had to nurse it that far? Go figure...
