Lexus IS300 is targeted toward younger buyers and is sporty and beautiful
BMW M3 can be for more ages, and follows a design that should last virtually forever, is sporty, but looks rich and luxerious...
which one?
I would take the M3 just because I have loved it since before the IS300 came out, and now I feel attached and I can't really let go for a new car...
I am not too sure on external appearances.. about which one I like better.. but I do like the IS300's rear lights better than the beamers and the BMW's front lights better than the Lexus'..

The styling of the IS is enough for me to choose it over the 3 series, but not against the M3's killer killer killer killer performance. That is a car that is close in comparison to a Z06! But, I really do like both.

Enzo hit the nail on the head. Both cars are great but, the M3 has a 333Hp, BMW Motorsport I-6. The IS 300 while still great, has a Toyota V-6. The M3 is also BMW's Top-End Sport Coupe, it should be great. LIke Enzo said the M3 is compared to higher performance beasts like the Z06, SLK32, SC430? and the CLK55.

Just for clarification...isn't the "300" from "IS300" an inline 6? Or, am I on crack?
Now, I hear that Toyota has plans for a 2-door, high performance IS. If they fitted that with a turbo (remember, this engine is basically straight from the Last generation NA Supra), this comparison gets a whole lot more fun!

I might have made a mistake... should I have compared the IS300 w/ the 3-series instead of the M3?

definitely shoulda compared the reg 3 series...
also... the is300 is an i6... it cannot be turboed as far as i know b/c of space constraints...
there is physically no place to put everything...
this i heard from autoweek and a few other mags...
and do not forget the wagon version of the is300 comin out... along with a bad ass twodoor and a ragtop(rumor)

Yes, SCC also said that the direct turbo swap wasn't "possible", because of spatial constraints, but SCC gave it a spin as if he was grinning when he said it...like it could be done. And, wasn't it just something like the intercooler that had difficulty?

I like the looks of the IS300 and the power of the M3. I can't choose.
