Hey everyone, just curious as to what everyone's gas mileage is for a classic driving around town and on highway. Assume average driving style for both to compensate for some romping on it and some not :-) I want to see what mine is like.

My fuel mileage is almost exactly that of oldsdad except I get about 2mpg less in city. Then again I like to get on it at stoplights to hear that sweet Flowmaster V8 music!

I'm been thinking about getting a 98/99 Aurora and I've considered waiting for one with the Autobahn pkg. because a review said that the package caused the engine to work a little less at highway speeds of 55-65mph.
I'm a bit confused by this because as I understand it the "standard" Aurora has final gear ratio of apx. 3.4 and the Autobahn pkg has a final gear ratio of apx 3.7 which as I understand would cause the engine to rev higher for a given speed and thereby reduce gas milege?
Any words of wisdom?

I also have read those reviews, the truth is some of them don't know what they're talking about. OR Don't understand gear ratios and what the autobahn package does.
the 3.7 gear ratio on my autobahn raises the rpms at every mph, this allows the engine to accelerate easier since every rpm is required to pull less weight, thus accelerate quicker.
This also means that at cruise the engine turns faster than it needs to in order to develope required power to continue at a level cruise, that reqires more fuel than needed and lowers MPG.
NOW having said that lets mix it up a little.
Lets say that I have a little 4 cylinder 100hp engine pulling a 1000lb trailer and I have a 5 speed.
In the above case I can sometimes get better milage in 4th gear with increased rpms with that load because the engine is able to develope more power at reduced throttle opening than if I ran in 5th at a lower rpm, but because the engine isn't able to produce the torque necessary at that rpm I open the throttle more to get more fuel in each cylinder and lower my MPG.
The point of the above was to show that if you have an engine/car that produces enough power/weight at lower rpms at reduced throttle openings it will make better milage and every increase in rpms will require more fuel than is needed.
BTW my dads Deville has a 3.1x ratio with the 4.6N* and he makes better milage than I do. And I think he could out accelerate me to boot. If Oldsmobile would have been alowed to use the 4.6 just think how much better the Aurora would have been.
