They always die like that, buy a new one, open it carefully. Swap stickers, put the old one in the box and return it :D

maybe u don't need to do that fruad thing Grendel is talking about. My suggestion is if you had it for a while maybe the little thing that reads the discs is dirty and u just need to clean it. if not, go the Grendel way

Xboxes have way more problems and ps2's are better.
Samething happened to me. I called up sony and sent it in to them. They told me they would fix it for free and they did. Cost liek 2 bucsk to ship it. All the problem is is a dirty lens and they clean it free.

If your not squemish around electronics, crack the sucker open and get the disk cover off. There is a little dial behind the laser, turn that dial and test your CDs till they all start working. It takes a few tries, but it works. Old PS2s had a problem with that dial ticking out of place. They fixed it later by making it out of metal instead of plastic.

yeah dude, Mine had the same problem so I did the little dial thing and it worked, saved me like 100 bucks to get it fixed. But the bad thing it will void your warranty so it's a risk your goin to have to take, but it's worth it.

I had the same problem with my ps2 I was getting ready to buy a new one, but, one day I came home from work and I saw my wife taking the ps2 apart??? she cleaned the lense with a Q-TIP put it back together and bam fixed........ for a while a couple of months later and it was doing the same thing, I think the best way to go is a lens cleaner, Careful if you do take it apart theres a wire that connects to the reset and eject button the hold both parts (top and bottom) of you ps2 together after you take it apart pulling this wire sux its a bitch pluging it back together again.

It's a common problem with some of the first ps2's made. I read that sony actually changed the placement of the lense and adjusting screw on a revised edition. The only way to tell is to open one up and look. The outside is identical. The adjusting screw if I recall right is white on the first ones while black on the revised ones.

I had a PS2 but I didn't keep it. It got dropped off a high stand twice but nothing bad happened to it. I sold it before any problems started. The thing is that the person that bought it has never had any problems with it.
