hesitates/dies if I give it gas after starting

I have a 97 Wrangler 4 cyl with 66K miles. It starts fine, but if I give it gas right away it dies. I find I can get around this by quickly tapping the gas pedal several times to get moving - this keeps it from hesitating and dying. Once it warms up it runs great.

Sounds like a bad sensor, since it runs fine when it's warm.

does the engine seem to crank longer than normal or miss on initial start-up?

..........yeah.........this is kind of creepy. I have a 97 4cyl as well and it is having the same problem. Look up 97 doesnt stay warmed up ( right now it is on the second page ) if you want to hear what kind of answers I got. After all this maybe we'll finally be able to figure out what the problem is.

By the way rivguy, mine does take a while to start up. If anyone figures out what the problem is I would appreciate the info.
