well everytime i started my car it ran like poop for 2 seconds and shut off so i thought it was the timing.. well the crank had no timing marks and the timing wasnt done right the first time. so i read up on some threads and went out took a straw turned crank counter clockwise till it reached the highest point ok thats done and then i turned cam till it was at a slight angle and arrows met up with markings on the cam gear ok so TDC for both. slid the 94-95 si belt back on and i was think alright im good to go and it did the samething. today i went out bought new ngk wires and just regular bosch platinums for 94-95 z6 head. by the way when removing old ones they reaked of gas. so went to start it samething ugh so i took out 2 bolts that hold the a6 dizzy and had sum1 move it while it was running.. would shut off at full advance and run like sheeet retarded. also theres a loud tap commin from motor. Can sum1 just tell me i did the timing wrong lol or do u think its a bit more serious then that? sorry long thread

a6 block 130k
94-95 z6 head 50k
92-96 si timing belt, head gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust gasket.

ur help is greatly appreciated

i think the question you should be asking yourself here is "why doesnt the crank pulley have timing marks on it"

it should, and if you're not sure about cam timing being correct, you should never turn the car over. pistons meeting valves up close and personal only spells disaster.

i would suggest a timing light and properly timing both the cam and ignition timing, but without timing marks on the pulley, i dont know what to tell you :S

if you dont have timing marks on your pulley, take your timing cover off to reveal your cam gear find the TDC from your no.1 piston and align it with the cam gear. I would suggest using a helms manual. I think theres a link to scans somewhere in the forum. good luck!

^^Either that or, take off your crankshaft pulley. The gear that the timing belt rides on (on the crankshaft) Has a little dimple in it. Line that dimple up with the arrow and your at TDC my friend.
