all right people. I need to know from whoever can tell me. I want more power out of my 420a. Its an automatic 4 cyl. 2.0 n/t. I just want to be able to beat a couple of the guys in my club. ONe has a Mitsubishi Galant. The other has a Acura Integra. We raced the other day coming home from work and All our cars pretty much sound the same, but the Galant killed the both of us. and my friends Integra just killed me. (look at mod list below). What parts can i get for cheap to boost the HP in my car? I dont have much money to work with. I have a full time job and a full time family. (1 wife and 2 kids.) something cheap and easy to install. So next time Me and the Galant and the Integra go racing, i can pull out in front of them easily. Any Ideas for the poor tuner? let me know?

since you dont have alot of money you could get NOS its the easiest to install and you get the most power for your money

the hopeless 420a soory i hate those motors. Like someone said ur best chance for a quick little win is Nitros. HMM what year galant does ur friend have? Do u kno if he's a member of TGC or G/F? And what mods does he have cuz i raced a couple of integras n lost.

Yea i have an auto 98 gs and it pretty much can squeeze alot of power from it. Its better if you had a stick. or like joe said wait and get a faster car.

i cant believe your telling this guy to save up for a better car when he doesnt have alot of money to begin with. Any ways work with what you have then when you get tired of it you can sell it and get something else

nitrous is your best bet! for $5-600 you can get a nice 75 shot wet kit that will give you plenty of power to take atleast the integra... if i were you i would stay away from the dry kits tho, they ruin the motor thru time!

why is it every time a guy wants to fix up his non-turbo car people always tell them its not worth it and they are better off saving the money and getting a gst or gsx. A NA car can be just as fast as any forced induction car :2cents:

well I hate to admit it but they are right. I had to turbo my gs to get any real power, the mods like intake, exhaust, etc. etc. are good for small gains but to give the motor a good kick in the nuts, nothin beats adding a turbo. you can get good hp out of it in its n/t state, but, not for a light wallet and you still wouldn't be in the same ball park as a turbo dsm. sad but true. save your dough, hell get a job or a second job if thats what it takes to get you where you wanna be. but don't expect to break any sound barriers with no grip. especially if you can't install stuff on your own. I have 3 mitsu 2gen cars. a 95gs/t a 96 gst and a 99gsx. when I turbo charged the gs and made it a gs/t it became much faster than my original gst simply because took my time, saved my dough, and had a lot of other mods to support the turbo well in advance. its still my favorite one to mess with because it was my 1st 4 cyl. to mod. and, I have just been in its guts more than any car I've owned. and if you have no dough, don't get nitrous. What are you gonna do when car don't go no mo (broken) but has that shinny bottle where all your money went? also with low funds you should quit thinking about mods and start thinking about maintaining what you got, until you can afford the big toys.

You dont always have to add a turbo to be fast. You could up the compression, get longer rods, bore the motor 20 over, get the vavletrian redone, with a ported head and youll be just as fast as any turbo car if not faster. Alll this wil cost less than buying a turbocar and youll be faster

if he doesn't do his own work (head). it'll still come out to be very expensive having paying labor for rods, piston rebuild or what not. but i see what you're saying. it's just doing those mods on our little 4 cylinder car doesn't really yield out all that much power is what they're saying.

The parts alone will cost him 1500 and labor will not be that much if he takes it to a shop that doesnt jack him

Sell you car and get a 1g you could get a nice one for a around 3k or so depending on where you live and still have money left for a few mods.

Um...can anyone telll me more about this stuff? I don't know crap but I want to.
Also, I have a 92 GS stock and I'm curious what first mod will get me fastest and what will get me loudest. I'm talking most decibel and HP gains respectively. Turbo is not in the picture yet. Oh yeah, and fairly simple since I will continue to know squat about cars till I start classes in the fall.
I don't know what to tell the guy with the 420a. I freaked out the other day when I wasn't sure what engine I had.

Bclipse was talking about upgrading the internals of the head and block of your engine in order to make them stronger and able to handle more horsepower. There is only so much you can do with naturally aspirated (NA) vehicles...there will be an end point when the only thing that will give you more horespower is more nitrous or a turbocharger. With a turbo car you have the advantage of being able to run larger and larger turbos as your desires and pocketbook allow.

Thank you joemathews... that had to have been the best answer to my question ive seen so far. the more and more i think about it the more and more id just love to get rid of my car and get a gst or gsx.. This guy down the street is selling a 99' gst for 7,900$. A damn good price for around here (va beach). so i might just do what you said and save up for a year or so and try and find a car like that with the turbo already in it and modify that with all the gidgets and gadgets that i like. Thanks..

This thread is pretty old man...anyway, you supercharged your talon?

The stock bottom end is good for about 250 hp on the 420a. Its not cheap getting there though, and your basic "mods" will not help you even reach 10% that amount. Intake, exhaust, headers, udp, etc. 20 hp at max. Still not good enough. A turbo kit is the only solution otherwise sell the car and go finance a turbo model.

Alright, if you DO plan on getting a turbocharged eclipse in the future, go for the AWD all the way. I dunno why but at the time I kinda caved in for a GST instead of waiting for a good GSX. LSD, suspension, and wide tires are the only things that can help me now, eh?

i'm insulted by you calling your spoiler a GSX spoiler. Its NOT a gsx spoiler!! its a "turbo" spoiler! i have stock gst and it has a "gsx" spoiler :)
you already have the basics for a n/a car. you've done all the cheap mods you can do. best thing to do is deal with your slow car, or buy a faster one.
i'm not going to say go get a turbo, but if you want to add cheap mods to a car and make it fast get a go cart. cheap mods don't make cars fast, they make fast cars a little faster.

do what im doing, i picked up my 96 Rs, dropped a tranny, nice set back. but i got my body kit from my dads NHRA sponcer and that cost me a whole 450$ i am preping my car, and painting, then i have 18 enkies... turn it around sell it to a ricer. My car was cheap, mods where cheap, and o ya my solid white interior, even the dash not the ricer way. I have offers all over the place for 7k once its painted. little work pays off.
