94 z28 with 383 stroker.....

I own a 1994 z28. Blew the motor, which was a lt1. Decided to go back with a 383 stroker motor. Still has tuned port injection, and other stock parts. Engine was angle milled, stock heads(with bigger valves)also were ported and polished, every thing is forged in the motor ready for spray. Well my question is: It won't start, have changed the computer and had it reprogramed, changed the ignition module and pretty much every thing to do with ignition(electrical), the motor will turn over but won't start. It is getting gas because have took number one plug out and can smell gas on it, and can smell gas when you pump it. It has alot of compression but should fire even with pump gas. Checked all the sensor's, had it put on dianostic machine. Shows it should be running by the machine. I believe it might have a faulty ground or something similiar to that. When me and some friends of mine pulled the motor and put it back in we were told you have to pull the front clip all the way off,but we got it out without that and put it back in without taking it off. Just think maybe we might have smashed the wiring harness up against the firewall some how? But not for sure on anything? Just wondering does anyone have any answers or opinions to get my baby back running? PLease help!
Thanks Danny

Are your spark plugs sparking? If they are is your timing O.K.

yes plugs are sparking and I was told that you couldnt get the timing off b/c it was automatically set when you mounted destriberter

Getting spark and getting fuel, it should be starting unless whoever did the programming screwed up. Might want to check to make sure your wires are in the correct places as well.

Oh, and you 94 LT1 is not tuned port injection, FYI.

Well if not then what do you call the intake sitting on top of my motor

An LT1 uses SFI (Sequential Fire), not TPI.

yeah, the LT1 is all the designation you need, TPI was the long, spider lookin intake design on L98 engines used on third gen camaros and firebirds and vettes.
now in reference to your problem. youve got spark, fuel, and compression, all the things you need, so the problem has to be with them coming together. which is normally the timing, when this engine was built, did you reuse the old optispark distributor??? did you remember to put in the drive sleave that connects the distributor to the timing drive shaft? and how much compression are you actually running?

Timing chain lined up dot to dot? Also, how did you adjust your rockers? If they are too tight, it will turn over but wont fire.

Doesnt tuned port just refer to the fact that there is an injector for each cylinder??? Ive got this book somewhere about tuned port injection systems and it refers to TPI, LT1, LS1 and even the vortec v6 motors as tuned port injection engines because the way they are designed.

Tuned port was the intake design for the runners I believe.

yeah, Multipoint fuel injection means an injector at each port, tuned port is the description of those LONG curved runners on TPI engines. any time the length of a runner is made a specific length to boost power in a part of the rpm band, its tuned.
