ok..........most of you dont know that i blew the motor in my monte :banghead: (shhh.....its a secret) and i couldnt figure out why...all i knew was i lost oil pressure and she quit.
Yesterday i began to tear her down and today i got down to the bottom end and when i droped the oil pan i noticed something sitting in the bottom and the pick up screen from the oil pump WAS GONE!! :eek7:
Well i pick the funny looking object out of the pan and looked at it..and it looked like the pick-up screen got jarred loose and the crankshaft mauled the hell out of it. :banghead:
Can someone tell me what happend to my damn engine??? and how the hell this happened?? :banghead: :eek7: :uhoh: :banghead: :eek7: :uhoh:

Wow, that sucks.
It sounds as if you mean the pick up tube. The screen is just the little mesh thing right at the bottom. Losing that will not produce a lack of oil pressure.
Some engine builders do braze the pick up tube in place. Otherwise they are just a press fit and can loosen up, fall out or start swinging around in high G manoevers, especially if the oil is sloshing around in the pan. By the sound of it, yes, it did get loose and was clipped by a crank throw.

I also use a permatex adhesive sealant on those tubes when I redo Mercruiser (Boat) Engines for exactly the reasons Rat just stated. As you found out, they really do better when they stay put. Good luck on the rebuild. :)
