Where is the ignition switch? 97'

I was installing an amp, but when I turn off the car, the amp stays on, I hookied it up to the factory radio but it still stays on, so It said the hook it up to the ignition switch, I was wondering were it was at. I have a 97'

Just check the wired coming out of the steering column for 12V when the ignition is on and 0V when it is off.

To make it simple, you should have three connections, ground, 12V constant power and 12V switched. I used a set of heavy gauge wire directly to the battery for the ground and 12V constant. The other connection usually indicates to connect to "power antenna". Really what they are trying to say is, hook it up to something that is controlled by the key. You could use your imagination on this one. Some cars don't have power antennas. The radio works the same way, ground, 12V constant (for memory) and 12V switched. You could also tie it to the 12V switched to the radio. I've been know to find switched power just about anywhere.

Check and see which wire off the back of the factory radio has 12 v on it when in the ACC on position and 0 V when in the off. If all else fails see if your cigarette lighter works when in the off position. If it doesn't then there is your 12v trigger.
