Gooey Steering Wheel

I have a 1992 Ranger STX with the leather steering wheel like was found on the Explorers of that vintage. Over the past twelve years of Alabama summers the foam under the steering wheel has turned to goo.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how did you address it? This part is no longer available from Ford so buying a replacement has proven impossible. Does anyone know if there are any companies that will rebuild the padding under the steering wheel and apply a new leather cover?

mdbayler, that goo is actually a rubber-like substance, much like Gel inserts in shoes and on bicycle seats. When it gets hot (alot) it starts to break down and if there is a leak or hole in the steering wheel, it oozes out like epoxy glue. As far as finding a place to repair it, you may want to try Alan Gun Leather Accessories (agla.com). They may be able to fix it or build a replacement, but they are not cheap! Good luck!

Try this link http://www.american-stitches.com
They are not cheap $259.00 to recover the wheel. Pictures of their work looks nice.
Jimbo4211: what was the company you suggested? I think your URL may be incorrect.
