??? About The Fuel Pressure Regulator

When you are checking the fuel pressure regulator vaccum line to see if there is fuel do you do this when the truck is running or immediately after shutting it down? Will there actually be fuel leaking or jsut a smell of fuel. BTW it is a 2000 silverado. Is it the line on the driver's side?

Yes it's on the drivers side and you check it with the engine off. Fuel (the liquid kind) will flow out--about a teaspoonful. This will let you know the FPR is bad. Just replaced mine on my 2000. Got tired of that repeated cranking after the first run of the day.

Well we checked the line and there was no gas in it, does that mean it is my fuel pump starting to go out. (2000 Silverado 4.8 that is hard to start when cold, with 133,000 miles) or could it still be the regulator since it did not hold pressure when it was shut down?

I'm going through the same thing. Lots of cranks to get it started. No fuel in the vacuum line either. I'm biting the bullet and replacing the reg anyhow. $60 at "Van Chevrolet" on-line store. Dont waste your time and money on prematurely replacing the filter. It wont help. Let us know if it is actualy your pump. BTW, if you want to avoid overusing your starter motor, leave the ignition on for 30 seconds before cranking the starter. This builds up pressure and allows a much quicker startup.
