No Shifting~~!

I was testing out my cooling system(i have no fan, hahaha). well, i was in 3rd, and i hit the clutch to go to to 4 :), and well, i felt a loss of tension mid-shift. so i put back in 3rd, and it didnt go! it some how is either in neutral, or the clutch is out. the dude who sold me the car said the clutch was gunne give out, but if it is my clutch, can i fix it myself?>
the car starts, but there is a clicking from the tranny area and i can shift gears on the stick, but i wont move. it is like a permanant nuetral. PLEASE HELP ME. im so sorry for always asking stupid/too many questions, but i want this car to be with me. its mah first car and i wanna keep it. HELP A GUY OUT PLEASE!
